As some of you may know i am set on purchasing a Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster as my next guitar, now ive been working for a couple weeks and with my next pay check i will have enough to purchase one :)

And i came across one on ebay... The claims to have two brand new ones which he is selling for £999, which is a really good deal since thery go for around £1400 in shops... however he lives 5 and a half hours away from me in the otherside of england :(

how i thought i would pop a link to the auction here and see what you guys think...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Malmsteen- ... Guitars_CV

Also thought i would add that i contacted my local dealer and was told it was a 2-3 month wait to get the vintage white/maple neck combo on the yjm strat from fender :(

havent got the serial number off the guy yet but am going to do so today.

Let me know what you guys think, worth having the guitar sent to me? is it authentic?

Cheers,

Larsson

Play it in person. That will remove all doubt. Make it a day trip. Good luck................. 8) Mike

Hi Larsson: well Tyne and Wear is about five hours from me too, so I'm not going to offer to go and test it for you, I'm afraid...

So far as the photos go I can't see anything to question about it. It looks like what it claims to be. I notice that the consistent street price in shops for that model is currently £1349 where we live. That's a touch less than he says, but his price is still a great bargain if the guitar is indeed untouched.

In fact the only thing that gives me pause is the seller's own remarks - it is very odd to have several new YM Strats and never play them. That sounds so weird it kinda makes you wonder about all his other claims too, doesn't it?

What I'm thinking: the postage he wants is £30. It would cost you more than that in petrol to drive over from wherever you are and take a look at it - but not increadibly much more. So why not ask him if he'll waive the delivery charge for personal collection, make a day of a trip over to look at it and drag it home with you if all turns out to be above board with the guitar?

That'll cost you a bit more than the price of Buy It Now + Delivery. But not madly much more: it'll save you from costly mistakes if there's something wrong with the deal - and it'll still be a 30% saving on buying it from a shop.

Sounds like a plan...?

Cheers - C
