Dot studio has a satin finish, less controls, no fretboard inlays and open coil pickups.

Dude, I don't know. They are both nice. By open coil pickups do you mean no cover?

Personally, I think you should wait, get a regular Dot with the gloss finish. the separate volume and tone controls for each pickup. They are $399. at guitar Center Brand new. I bought mine on Craigslist in Mint condition, for $250. and I didn't even haggle with the guy, I just bought it. I think the Studio is a more limited option moder, and I don't like having limited options when its only a matter of another $100. Plus, get a case because they are fragile guitars. Sounds nice and nasty,Dirty. Early Clapton, Bluesbreakers, Cream, also Black Crowes. The stock pickups sound pretty good for Rock. 8)

Played that model a bunch of times, a magical guitar versatile and a great neck.

I love my Dot Studio. She sounds and feels great, the fret-ends are absolutely flawless, I even kept the stock epiphone pups because they seem to work great on this body type. For 229 EUR this is probably the best guitar you can get. 8)

This video convinced me on buying the studio. Like Paul says: " It sounds big and woody" (review of the dot starts at 5min.)
