On monday I was looking at a lovely Squier Tele Custom with 2 humbuckers that way you get the humbucker sound with the advantage of the comfortable Tele neck which in my experience is narrower and consequently a lot more comfortable than Gibson necks. The little beauty was only around $250.

I have over 50 guitar. From my Eric Johnson strat to a few squiers. If you know what to look for squier made some very good guitars. I have a collection of the Pro Tone, Vista, 24 and master series. I have 3 Esprit's because they are so good. I would reath play my Esprit than a off the rack Les Paul. Alot take about the JV squier but I think in a few years peole will be looking for the made in Korea Squier's. After all after Squire stoped make them there Fender came out with Korea models. Some of the Limeted editions came from there. I have some. So Squier made good and bad just like all other makes. You just have to know what to look for.
God bless Fender players and the U S A

My sentiments exactly Jammer. The Korean Squiers I have are really good. I just got my Esprit yesterday. I have some set-up work to do on it but so far I'm impressed by it. I think it needs a pickup swap though. The Duncan Design pickups sound a little nasally to me.

I can't say that the quality of it is as good as my LP. But I'm digging the lighter weight of it and the shape of the neck. I'm gonna give some time to get used to the guitar before giving any real review of it compared to my others, but so far pretty impressive for what you can get it for.

Like them or hate them, know how to spell it right!

Squires are men who attends or escorts a woman; a gallant. An English country gentleman, especially the chief landowner in a district.

SQUIERS are guitars.

I don't know what L P you "Shredd6" have and I should have stated but as for fade and other low end L P's that would cost more give me a Esprit. The only Les Paul I truely Loved was an artist. Never cared for the necks and weight. There's always toy's to get the L P sound. I agree about pick up's if you're playing metal. But for the music I write they're good. Even if I change 1 I would keep 1 as is for a collector.

These kinds of threads always seem to bring out a lot of Squier love, and a minimum of hate. Why should one care what anyone else thinks about their "Squire"? The Squier bashers are undoubtedly gear snobs or have never played a Squier.
I've never owned a Squier guitar, but the ones I've handled seem to be solid instruments. I've set up a brand new Squier Strat for a friend, and was surprised at how well it was made for the price he paid for it.
I'll put in a good word for the Squier CV 50's Precision bass. I bought one for the "vibe", and after a few mods to suit my taste (new electronics and new 3-ply parchment pickguard), I play it as often as my stock MIM Fender P. Definitely a winner. A few friends who've played it have even commented that they can't believe it's a Squier!

Well, for a very short time it actually was "Squire"
http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/show ... p?t=179017

Quote:
"The Fender Stratocaster 1954 - 1984" by A.R.Duchossoir,1985 edition, second printing (First colour edition)
On page 20,Fender Japan chapter, under the title "Phase Two...",first paragraph:
Quote "In spite of a steady production of 3500 units per month by mid-1982,for the whole range of Vintage re-issues,Fuji Gen Gakki Mfg Co. still had more production capacity. Consequently,in October 1982,Fender Japan announced the new "SQUIRE" brand to further expand it's line of budget models. Soon, the "Squire" trade name was changed to "SQUIER",certainly to take advantage of the Squier trademark which CBS owned since the purchase of the V.C. Squier string company in the USA." Unquote.

Also, the following paragraph could help clear things up a little. It is from the same book, same page, final paragraph of the section titled "Phase One..."
Speaking of the earliest Japanese Vintage re-issues,Duchossoir writes the following:
Quote: "At first, these Fender Japan Stratocasters were only marketed in Japan and in a select number of European countries,BUT NOT IN THE U.S.A. since Fender probably decided to avoid any conflicting situation." Unquote.

Well, it's kind of irrelevant how it "was" spelled, it is now spelled Squier. And quite frankly, I don't see what's so hard about getting it right.
I suppose though, it's just one fo those things like rouge/rogue, or pronouncing nuclear as nuculer. (TBH, both of those bug me,too.) Comes across to me as being intellectually lazy.

I gotta give you credit here Jammer. After setting up the Esprit, I was originally going to take the Burstbuckers out of my LP and put them in. But I just couldn't do it. The Esprit has a balance problem, and until it got addressed, I just wasn't willing to gut my LP.. Even then I still didn't.

I installed the Ibanez setup of a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge and Air Norton in the neck. The guitar sounds good. Plays very well.

I have to say that after fixing the balance problem, I do like playing it more than my LP. So far.. It's lighter, resonates very well, but it's the shape of the neck that has me sold. I love Squier Korean neck-through style guitars. I can get a lower action out of the Esprit than I can with my LP, and the neck is thinner (good for my small hands). It's much like my Stagemasters. Modern c-shape, low action.

I'm most likely gonna ditch the Air Norton neck pickup though. I think Dimarzio has their description wrong on this. It doesn't sound open to me. The Tone Zone Definitely does. I'm probably going to go with an Air Zone and I'll be very happy with this guitar.

I am just completing a complete set-up on a used Squier that I traded for. I have come to the conclusion that these are really nice guitars but leave a lot to the owner to set up in order to keep the price competitive. First thing I did was to dress the ends of the frets to remove the sharp ends. I'm sure the reason they protrude is because of some wood shrinkage leaving the ends sticking out. Next was to make sure the neck had the proper relief and there were no high frets. The E,A,G, slots were not cut deep enough in the nut and had to be lowered somewhat. The saddle adjustment screws were in most cases, about twice as long as they need be and were rough on the picking hand when palm muting the strings. I was not able to find shorter screws in the proper size/thread pitch so I made a jig to use and cut them off with a Dremel tool. I am adding some wipe on Poly to the Maple fretboard which is very dull and soils easily.
Several of these items are just personal preferences and don't affect the playability of the guitar and some can really make playing an unpleasant experience.
This guitar (I think a 70's copy with the twin humbuckers) is now a real joy to play and has a great tone. I'm a Blues picker and after getting the intonation and pickups adjusted I don't want to part with this one.
