My Squier Bullet was a great beginner guitar. I still play it after 8 years when practicing, but never use it on gigs.

Eventually, years ago, the switch got bad and when a tuner failed I had new Fender locking tuners, new 5-way switch and new Seymour Duncan pickups added, even though the "upgrades" cost more than the original Squier, it keeps it a usable guitar.

It also has sentimental value as "my first".

Hi theFailGuitarist: so, this far in it seems the only person on this thread dissing Squiers is... you.

So I guess you are the only person here who can answer your own question...:

No - they should only Bag and Spit on people who can't spell it correctly. It is "Squier", not "Squire".

I've never heard of this "Squire" brand that everyone here is talking about.

However, I have nothing but the highest regard for the Squier family of fine musical instruments. 8)

I never "spit" on the Squier brand. I do have to admit I do see some people dis the brand on this and other Forums; however, this Forum has a lot of people that defend tem tooth and nail as well.

I have owned 2 Squiers in my guitar lifetime. 1 was a late 80's HM III Stratocaster HSS and it rocked. Owned it for many years (had to have it repaired after an unfortunate accident involving my kids) and finally got rid of it about 3 years ago. I wish I still had it now. My second Squier is my CV 60 Stratocaster. The only changes I have done to it has been a new pickguard and adding black accessaries to complement the new look. All other specs are orginal to the guitar. I play this as much as my 2 Fender Stratocastrers I own.

Nothing but love for the Squier brand from me. As Nevin stated in his post, if it wasn't for Squier, I probably would not be playing guitars today.

well now i guess its my turn to speak up. I do not hate squier at all, i just hate mine. After playing my Value pack, i realized the materials were cheap, and i needed constant tuning. That made me realize i have to get a new guitar and amp. I like my strat, but however, to improve my old strat would cost a lot. my budget is very very low, so i guess i have to sell it. I am planning to get a les paul, because i know it would be a much more reliable guitar to practice and experiment with. I can't even get a hard rock/punk sound out of the amp.i cranked up everything(except volume otherwise it'll be too loud) and still, no dice. But i still didn't hate squier although i couldn't find the sound i was looking for. In conclusion, i support squier for making low priced guitars and basses with quality(Not all of them, but most).

btw this may sound like a school essay i am writing but its not. so no comments about it. thnx

Welcome The FG,if you have a low budget how could possibly afford a Les Paul?Even the Epi Les Pauls are $600 + and Gibsons are out of the ball park,as for reliability Gibson Les Pauls have been plagued with reliability and other problems lately especially with staying in tune for some reason, that's why if I was going the Les Paul I'd go for an Epi before a Gibson even if I was offered a choice free of charge.I'm sure that any problems with your Squier are not indicative of the whole brand.Your Squier could possibly be fixed/upgraded for cheaper than you think. You mentioned your amp,a lot of people experience problems with their sound and automatically blame the guitar. The amplifiers that come with starter packages are usually of the lowest quality and have tonal output not much better than a house radio.Try your guitar through a "real good"amp and I'm sure that your opinion will change.

Now now now TC, let us not point out the incredibly obvious, besides it is far more funny this way.

Hi FG, and welcome to the forum.
The more I read this post, the funnier it gets.
If you could, re-read this post and I think you will see the things that should be edited.
BTW, Billy Joe Armstrong of Greenday played a strat for many years. He now is playing P-90 Les Paul's, but they are still single coil guitars.

The key for your tone will be to get a good amp and a distortion pedal that is to your liking.

They're nothing to sneeze at!

I confess I have drooled on my Squier Strat more than once. But I've done it to my Fender Tele as well, so it's definitely not just a Squier thing. 8)

ive seen some junk ones and ive seen some that suprised me.
you can customize them and get a really nice guitar.
its likethis imo, they arent for everybody or every situation.
they have a niche that they fill and no other guitar can do that as well.
they have been around for a long time and they arent going anywhere either. some people have a problem comparing apple to apples, so they start to bash.
i want one to play with just to see what i can come up with by customizing it.
these are the work horse of the middle of the road guitars.
you see them everywhere from bedrooms to stages.
you either love them or you hate them. i cant wait to get my mits
on the john5 tele. i hear its badass. will i buy it? if i like it i will.
so screw what everybody thinks and play what you like/have.

guitslinger's advice is the best, play your Strat through a pro rig ( even a smaller Fender amp or Vox amp you will notice the difference ) and you will get the sounds that you want to hear from your guitar.
