"A Million Miles Away" by Rory Gallagher from Irish Tour '74 is one of the
greatest guitar moments ever !! Rory manipulates his 1961 strat volume and tone controls in a way that mesmerizes the listener and this is done without pedals or effects. If you have never heard this song ( and in particular if your're a Strat fan) drop what you are doing and get it - there's plenty of guitar gems here for anyone. "Tattoo'd Lady" has a fantastic solo where Gallagher plays a distinct rhythm and solo at the same time in parts. Muddy Waters " I Wonder Who" will have you mouth , eyes and ears wide open !!!!!!

But...................to me................. "Crest of a Wave" on Rory's Deuce album is his #1 - recorded when he was only 23, this is possibly the greatest slide guitar solo of all time - easily in the top 5 !

Again I will say it .... there is no other guitarist of this caliber who could play electric, acoustic and slide guitar, sing, write, produce and be a multi-instrumentalist ( harmonica, mandolin, sitar, saxophone, NOT ONE !!!!!

Changes daily, but I have this little rock mix of various artists cd in my truck and I have to say I get real excited every time it gets to one song and end up blasting it full volume and playing more than a few times before I move onto the next one :!:

Cemetary Gates - Pantera

Love it! It's a shame Clapton made that sell-out slow version garbage out of it.

I hate that acoustic version. The original with D&TD is best.

"That Song" depends on what the day brings. I've been spending a lotta time on SRV's "Tightrope", "Cold Shot", "Pride n Joy" and "Texas Flood", but Steely Dan's "FM (No Static at All)" and Chicago's "25 or 6 to four" have always moved me.

25 or 6 to 4 Reminds me of Henry Mancini's Baby Elephant Walk. "Why," you may or may not ask?

I used to play 25 or 6 to 4 in the High School Marching Band. The fondest memory I have in the High School Band was having Henry Mancini conducted our Band for The Washington Post March and the National Anthem at Dodgers Stadium in 1986 (along with about a hundred other High School Bands from around California). Baby Elephant Walk was one of my favorite songs as a Small Child, so I was fully aware of the honor as it was happening (unlike 95% of the other kids).

25 or 6 to 4 was our Band's warm up song, It's definitly a "Memories" song for me.

P.S. I'm pretty sure The Dodgers still have High School Band Night, if there are any High School Bands left is another question.

Before his solo stuff. I forget the name of the band but they reissued the album back in the 80s and tagged it "Featuring Jimi Hendrix" to sell it. I'll try and find it when I get home and post the info.
