Some nights ago I went to TGI Fridays with a bunch of my friends. Some time into the meal, I discovered a strat hanging on a wall in a corner, somewhat hiding from the guests of the restaurant. I did not have the chance to take a closer look at it, but what I saw was a white pickguard with a red-ish finish and a matching/coloured headstock. I am really tempted to go back some day and take a closer look at it, and listen in if they're willing to sell it (hopefully for a tenth of what it is worth).
Do some of you own any experience what so ever concerning places like TGI Fridays, and buying things they keep hanging on their walls? It is mostly rubbish, but who knows, you might get lucky now and then.

One of the bars I jam at has a mint condition 1979 Peavey T-60 drilled to their wall along with a bunch of junk guitars. I really want to make an offer on it, since it has toaster style pickups and my '79 T-60 has a malfunctioning bridge pickup. But I haven't yet.

Most of the guitars I see on restaurants walls are old cheap Harmonys or something like that. I really hate seeing any guitar hanging up there to rot, but then most of the time it wouldn't be a good playable guitar anyway.

There are several companies that buy up old stuff from estate sales, storage auctions, etc. and warehouse the stuff to sell to restaurants and bars and such to hang up for decoration.

We have several restaurants and sports bars in the area with the "retro" motif -- most of the guitars displayed are old Kay's, Harmony's, Stella's, and the like. A few imports as well but the secondary market is now burgeoning for playable tulip-body Teisco's and Decca's. The closest thing to a "real" Strat I've seen as a wall-hanger was a beat-to-crap Affinity that had at least three visible repairs to the headstock and a low-budget "relic" job on the body courtesy of an ice pick and belt sander.

There's a bar I like in San Antonio that has about 50 Squier Strats mounted on the wall. Just to the left of the stage hangs a Squier '51 in beautiful condition. I've considered offering to swap them an Affinity Strat for it (to fit in with the rest of the decor), but I've never gotten around to it. 8)

I worked as a wiater in a Friday's when I was 19 or so and they would get offers to buy stuff on occasion and it was against policy to sell anything to anyone for anyreason. Maybe things have changed but they wouldn't even sell someone an old record sleeve hanging in the corner by the bathroom....
