Peavey, marshall, fender, vox and others just depends on what you want to spend.

Vox makes some great little modelling amps like the DA 5 and DA 10 both have pretty good amp modelling and really great effects and are in the under $200 range. The Vox Pathfinder 15 R is another great loud 15 W amp with a decent reverb great tremolo and overdrive for less than $150. The small Marshall amps are also a bargain with great tone.

Fender Frontman Amps are good amps as well. My daughter uses a Frontman 25R, works and sounds great.

i too bought a squier Strat Pack. i'm very surprised that your amp is messing up. i have the exact same thing (though i've since upgraded to a tube amp). i'm assuming the amp is a frontman 15G? i would call either fender or the store where you bought it and tell them about the problem. hopefully you could get it exchanged for an amp that works.

It really depends what you want. With the handle Armyelite7, are you living in the barracks and need to use headphones? Or can you crank it up where you are? Do you want solid state or tube amps. Both have their ups and downs.

I have a 15 watt fernandes I bought used ($20) it is plenty loud. So a 15 to 25 watt should good unless you are going to play shows somewhere.

You might want to look at "Pignose", they have some very good amps for a budget
