Happened 5 years before I was born. I was born in 82. As with all legends though, they have an impact on your life whether you like them or not or whether they are alive or dead.

I wasn't discounting Elvis' and Lennon's impact.
I do like (some of) Elvis' music and most of Lennon's.
But, iiifffff, Elvis and Lennon were alive today would we have been
inundated with the likes of Madonna,Brittany Spears ???

Like most people I remember the exact place I was when I heard of Elvis dying. As a child and teen I saw every movie he made-some countless times. It wasn't until I visited Graceland in 1987 that I realized the impact he had on my life. When I walked through the room holding all the guitars he played in concert and movies it hit me how much seeing him play these guitars moved me towards wanting to be a musician.Although John Lennon and George Harrison were huge in setting on the road Elvis had a large hand in giving me the shove too.

RIP Elvis. One of my big inspirations for music.

I remember hearing on Elvis Radio (when I had XM for free with my car) a demo of one of his first songs, "don't eat the urinal cakes." Honest. No joke. It was some sort of rare recording that was found. I guess that's why I liked him because at times, he didn't take himself too seriously. He could laugh at his own mistakes (have a DVD of some of his performances where he just sometimes cracks up). He was versatile and did some groundbreaking work.

Still miss the 'hound dog.'

First guitar song I learned, "love me tender."

Thank you very much, Elvis.
