Davy Jones-vocal;Louis Shelton& Gerry McGee-guitars:Joe Osborn-bass:Jim Horn&Jay Migliori-sax:Roy V. Caton & Oliver Mitchell-trumpet:Lew McCreary-trombone: unknown-backing vocals:Don McGinnis-horn arrangement:Produced by The Monkees: recorded Dec 26&28 1967. Cool, very little known about a popular song at that time.

Now I would have thought Tom Boyce played lead since he play guitar for Boyce and Hart. Gerry Magee come along when the two form th Candy Store and played more rhythm I think.
On stage Nesmith played it. Much mystery around who did what on the Monkees they had alot of albums and hits those years.

Joe Osborn, the bassist, lived in the same county as I do years ago and I met him several times, all I knew was that he was a bass player....since then I've seen a list of songs he had played on and it was very impressive, tons of hits from the 60s and 70s and later....no telling how many went # 1....I think I remember that he played on alot of the Carpenter's tunes.
Those session guys are the real thing, the musicians who can lay a track down in any style they're asked to.
Too bad you have to do alot of research to even see who they were.
