good craftsman.
still, theres something very "dirt bagish" about using a decal like that then advertising it out like this.
if i were fender i would track him and bust him just cause.

For what, precisely?

That is some fine craftmanship......the gentleman has a superb eye for detail and outstanding command of his skills!

As long as the person is honest about it not being a "real Fender" I don't mind the decal.

yes arjay he does as i dd state that.
my problem is the decal and thats my only problem with him.
he set there and made a countfeit broadcaster and advertised it.
his craft is exceptional yes, but theres a line i dont think he/you should cross.
we talk on here all the time about guitars like this, "fakes".
this guy has all but tried to sell it as such.
its no different than printing money. the act alone is illegal.
he should have just left the decal off. heck he should start his own custom
guitar shop even.

Yeah, the decal thing sort of bothers me too.
He has been honest in pointing out that this is a fake and it appears that he builds a lot of guitars just for his own use too. He did say he's sold a couple of other types of guitars but the prices sound to be low.

Wonderful craftsmanship and attention to detail though.
Looking forward to the final pics.

He's gone so far as to scribe a serial number on the bridge and has collected period correct pencils so the fake markings in the neck pocket are accurate. There are experts who couldn't pick this one out.
He freely admits he has the wood to make more.

Have fun making a case with that "evidence", counselor.

You'd be laughed out of court quicker than Ted Kennedy at an AA meeting.

As a published author, I know something of intellectual property law. And the gentleman has violated no proprietary protocols, at least not thus far.

Fender's legal eagles Mark Van Fleet and Robin Orsini have bigger fish to fry than one lone luthier with a particular gift for replication, absent his attempt to conduct a sustained commercial enterprise.

That is exceptional. I don,t think it would pass of as an original broadcaster. How many are even out there. Hes not mass producing anything so who cares no different than making a replica of a car.

Weren't there only like 500 or so broadcasters made? Since Gretch at the time owned a drum model called "The broad-kaster" and that's why they switch to tele?

Please don't shoot me down on my lack of knowledge... I probably still have a lot to learn :)

Quite right, Jimbo. There was in fact a legal dust-up between Fender and Gretsch over the "Broadkaster" trade name.

I'm not sure of the exact production figures for Fender's original Broadcaster but your estimate is a good educated guess.

I have to disagree with the use of the decal. As someone who knows a few guys who have duped into buying fakes over the years I just can't feel comfortable with it.

There is no doubt of his skills but I think Ceri's better.

Nice looking Tele he built for himself. I don't really take any offense to the use of the decal, since I too thought about putting one on the Tele I am building, but I decided to go without one. It just doesn't feel right putting it on there and anyone who knows about fender guitars will be able to tell a real from a fake.

He does indeed have great skills. But, IMO it is just wrong to put on the decal. I hate seeing stuff like this because IMO it just kills the value on our gear when it is counterfeited like this. Again, JMO
ABS :D
