What is the procedure for lacquering a tweed case? I just got my son a 57 Vintage Hot Rod strat and would like the case it comes with to LAAAAAST! Is it a difficult proiject that is best left to professionals (DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!), or can it be done by us amateurs? Any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't put any lacquer on it, over time its gonna chip, scratch, and discolor. I have seen tweed cases that are 20 years old with spilled beer on them, among other things, and it only makes it more vintage looking. It will last a very long time if it is handled with care. A little soap and water does wonders for real tweed as well.

I am only repeating what I've read on the web:

DON'T DO IT.

That modern RI case isn't covered with luggage tweed, like the old cases were: they're covered with tweed-y vinyl.

So the lacquer won't soak into the fabric and harden it, like the old ones did...

It will just sit on top, never cure and make a godawful mess.
