Statesboro Blues, Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East 1971 I think... Also I saw an 1989 Go Go's on youtube doing We Got the Beat, and they kicked $@!. Any band that can play live, recording contract or not, and pump it out like that with no studio gimmicks is A OK in my book. This is not my favorite recording, just thought I would mention it.

Floyd/Gilmour are always great, BUT for myself Frank Zappa's
double album Zappa in New York would have to be my personal favorite.
Than again, I've always been a little, uh, umm, OUT THERE.

Nice, hearing this in '78 when I first became a KISS fan, this made me want to play drums.

Some really great albums listed on this thread - I personally adore LIVE stuff over studio. Here are a few more:

Rory Gallagher - while Irish Tour is great, I prefer Stage Struck and BBC Sessions
Derek and the Dominoes - Live (not at the fillmore, another album)
Susan Tedeschi - Live in Austin
Walter Trout - Live Trout and Relentless
Loggins and Messina - On Stage
Fleetwood Mac - Live at the Boston Tea Party - all 3 discs
Delbert McClinton - Live (at Bergen)
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush - Real Live (magnificent!!)
Blues Traveler - Live from the Fall
Tab Benoit - Night Train to Nashville
Satriani Live

Of all time?

Well, Rush puts on a hell of a show so did the Grateful Dead.

Of who is still out there touring, and I just saw them last night that would be Huey Lewis and the news.
MOST of the original band is still there, the lead guitarist (Chris Hayes) has retired to spend more time with his family but still fill in from time to time.
There new guitarist is Stef Burns, and he is a heck of a strat player.

The band...

Not bad for a guy who is now 60.

They put on a really great show, not a greatest hits review, he spent to first half of the show doing there new songs for there new cd coming out November 2nd, Soulsville.

If you get a chance to go see them, do it.

Oh, and the two guitarist play strats and one uses Fender amps, Staf plays the M brand one, but we all know the English company stole there design from.

Grand Funk Railroad - Live Album

maybe not 'the' best, they definitely get an "E" for effort on this one.
