Hey all

I've been looking at a few wireless systems. I'm thinking of getting one for great mobility. Anyone have one? If so, like it, recommend it, etc.?

I'm just looking for a lower end one as an alternative to wired because I like moving around a bit when playing in public.

I used a Nady for a while about ten years ago. It over-compressed the signal somewhat which narrowed my guitar's amplified frequencies. It also ate batteries like crazy. A 9-volt Duracell or Energizer would last for a mere two gigs (about 9 hours of playing time).

I do not have one, but several years back I was investigating getting one and talked to a number of acquaintenances who use them. After listening to all the tips/comments (get UHF not VHF, may suck out the tone, sometimes interrupts and sometimes gets rf interference, poor battery life, etc.) everyone said this is not an item to skimp $ on; the better ones starting around $400 got positive reviews.

After considering it further, I thought that as a singer, I couldn't stray from the mic and I didn't want a wireless headset mic; plus to play leads, I had to be near the footswitch or pedals.

Just some things to think about as you investigate further.

That was my assessment as well, Bill.

After six months I traded mine off for some reloading gear.

i use to use one way back. i enjoyed the freedom.
couldnt get far w/o signal drop, maybe 50ft or so if i remember correctly.
im in the market for a new one. they can be had at a fair price these days.
i know a couple folks that have them and swear they can get several hundred feet line of sight out of them w/o signal drop.
playing live i think you can get more involved with those watching the show.

I'm by no means set on one, I just like moving around. I'll go to a few music shops and try out any they have. I'll walk all over the store and see what kind of tone it gets and where it starts to drop off before I even consider one.

I have no problems with my Ashton whatsoever. I can get 100ft from the receiver before I notice anything amiss.

Modern ones are very different beasts from the older ones. Of course theres a lot to be said for the way their set up. A decent one doesn't cost a fortune these days. Think I paid £200 for mine. Nice and clear, no latency, no frequency loss.

Line 6 have released a digital wireless that looks to be heralding in a new era in that line.

Our guitar player recently picked up a Line 6 Relay G50. I had an opportunity
to borrow it for a week and use it with bass and guitar. It's really, really nice.
It has virtually no effect on tone and has a super low delay (4 mS) and a big
range. The only possible downside is that I thought the transmitter was a little
hard on batteries. It takes double-A's so it's not a big problem.
