I bought my brother a gently used digitech grunge pedal off ebay a while ago, but he never took to it like I hoped he would and now it's mine. Problem is it recently developed a habit of not working at first. When you first plug in and play, it makes your guitar sound like something out of a 1980s NES game. After five or so minutes, it "warms up" and works perfectly fine. I've never heard of a pedal acting like this, and couldn't find anything online. Since I'm not the original owner I'm not covered by warranty - does anyone know what the problem might be or a possible home remedy?

Perhaps there may be some electrolytic caps that are bad? Those caps typically hold a charge, but as they age of or if they are defective, they will not hold a charge, and may take a few seconds or minutes to get a charge in them to help them work properly. I've never had that happen with a pedal though, but on my home stereo, I have to let it warm up for a minute or so as the caps build their charge back up...so I'd try looking into that perhaps...though with some of the Digitech stuff (and most digital gear these days), there is so may be a lot of surface mounted soldering (in other words, very small parts that are hard to repair and/or replace, let alone see sometimes), that it might be a bit tricky if you don't do, or even if you do, a lot of soldering and repairs...though I am not sure of that particular pedal...
