okay, this is basically a vent, so prepare yourselves. how in the world can the music industry today let people with such little talent become famous!? meanwhile, people with real talent and songwriting skills get stuck playing in bars, even though they enjoy every minute of it. for example, that one kid. oh, what is her name... oh yeah! justin bieber! (okay sorry for my little bit of immaturity there) how can the MUSIC industry let people who can't write their own music and use auto-tune because they can't sing become famous?! that's like me getting paid for pretending to play my guitar while a guitar solo plays on the radio. it ticks me off that some of todays no-talent artists are basically household names, while most of my generation don't even recognize the names jimi hendrix or eric clapton.... it's such bull****!!

okay i'm done, thank you for your patience!

I can't disagree on a single point that you made.Today's music industry is filled with pretty faced talentless poseurs whose voices are that processed through studio enhancing devices that their own mothers wouldn't recognize them.It all boils down to the bottom line where a baby faced girlie-boy like Justin Beiber can rake in more money than a seriously talented musician who is not as photogenic. What is being passed off as music today is bland, tasteless generic mass produced pablum that has absolutely no musical merit and only has a monotonous beat and slapped together lyrics with little or no input from real living breathing musicians but some computer generated audio tracks. The "music" industry is long overdue for another Renaissance to shake it up and replace this vacuous garbage that's being pumped out over the airwaves and through the ubiquitous i-pods.Fellow musicians pick up your instruments now and start the revolt now and help end this Musical Depression.

i agree. it's time for everyone in my generation that appreciates good music to rise up and show everyone our age what we can do. we need to help reform (or replace) the music industry today.

I kind of like it actually. It's not really the industry's fault, they're just marketers and engineers and producers trying to make music for profit. The fact is, our society seems obsessed with people like Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift so as long as that's what they buy, that's what the industry will put out.

I like it because personally, I would rather play in a bar for people I know listen and love the music I'm playing rather than have millions of people who buy my song that's been overproduced and engineered til it is devoid of any real meaning; it's sole purpose is to provide music-esque sound so tweens have something to listen to while they tweet. Sure, I would be making millions rather than hundreds (or thousands if I get lucky one day), but money can't buy happiness (wow, what a cliche >_______>).

Also I like that fact that if one of my favorite artists plays at a bar, it costs me only 10-20 bucks to see them live max. If they're famous and play at a stadium though, I have to shell out a lot more and it's not as good as an experience normally.

That being said, I thing the UFC should have a special pay per view of Quinton Rampage Jackson vs Justin Bieber. I know I would tune in ^^

i see what you mean, but i blame the industry because they sign people with no talent. if they signed real musicians, that's the only thing people COULD listen to, so they wouldn't have a choice but to like it. musicians that have a voice and want people to hear their views and opinions can't reach the masses without a contract. and unless they have a pretty face, that won't happen.

i like taylor swift though, i mean sure, her music is kind of generic and for young girls, but she actually writes her own music and plays her own guitar. i'd say country is one of the only genres left with some integrity.

I disagree with you saying why does the music industry make people famous. It's the patrons to the music industry ( the public ) . The industry does what ever makes money and to do that they have to get the public too spend it. All goes to groups within the population, the Mickey Mouse Club music lovers, Rap music fans, ect.ect. Blame the Justin beiber fans! The industry is doing what I would do CASHING IN!!!!

The industry sells what people are ready to buy. People are willing to buy drugs, there is drugs on the streets. People want to buy porn, there is porn on the streets. People want more pretty faces singing but the industry is short of talented ones and the public can't wait, no problem, the industry will build talent. They have no soul? Bring more spotlights and fireworks, more make-up and special effects. Why does the industry is doing this to us? Because we gave them the keys.
Look at that girl who bought a guitar on EBay, to find out that she have been riped off. How can someone seriously think that he or she can buy a guitar for a few cents? These guitars probably cost a few bucks to make. They make their money on the shipping fees. Remember the TV adds, "call now and we will send you a second gizmo absolutely free, you only pay for the shipping". They make money on the shipping as long as they send low cost junk to us. :?

ive nearly reduced a beiber fan to tears by explaining why its NOT music, why he has his success, and what his future will most likely be (doing unspeakable things in the alley for crack money)... oh yeah, and i shattered the delusion that she will some day meet the little douche and theyll live happily ever after together... fun times...

Jake, wood-shedding is going to put you across the finish line 1st every time. You are without a doubt going to get the opportunity to be successful so the key is to be more than ready. Practicing, rehearsing, writing, repeat. Try not to think about the flea circus or the singing dog or what-have-you that is being pushed, when it is your time they will all be impressed because you will be the best Bro.

"Some of my favorite stuff, man, is to play Albert King things and to be able to do it in 1989 or whenever... in 2010! I hope that style of music and the reality of blues... never leaves our music. Hope we don't decide as a mass to get rid of all the real things and just put in the synthetic hypnotic music. I hope that never happens."

-Stevie Ray Vaughan

^What he said. It kind of freaked me out a little the first time I read that considering it actually is 2010 now, it's not just some distant date in the future.

I'm really glad that there are still the kind of people out there like all of you posting here. People who don't want to listen to a bunch of auto-tuned crap sung by people who can't even write their own music. And I'm especially happy that there are people out there in the 13-19 age bracket who feel like that too.

there's 1 reason for all this- money. studios will exploit people like justin beiber for as long as they can. once his voice changes- or his looks- he'll get tossed to the side of the road.

I have often wondered, of the folks who buy that crap REALLY like it? Or, are they just brain washed into thinking its great?
