It really depends on the job, and in your case I would think you should be getting the same, or really close to the same as the others. That sounds horrible.

hey nevin, i make 17 bucks an hour on my regular gig. my part time gig pays around 30 to 35 bucks an hour without taxes taken out (or stolen i prefer). i won't list my job duties unless someone wants me too. there are many, which to me, makes me a valuable emplyoee. i guess.
i am married, own a home, a small truck and a harley. i've got 4 guitars and a small 212 amp. i have a small collection of firearms for hunting and protection. for some it may seem like very little. for others it may seem like a whole lot.
bottom line. we live within our means and haven't borrowed money since we left home. it may not be much but it's ours and we're both happy.
i agree you should make more money and i believe you will soon. just keep working hard.

The nurses in NL are the lowest paid in Canada and graduate nurses from here are recruited from all over-especially the US because our MUN nursing school is considered one of the best in North America.Ironically we have the highest minimum wage in Canada-$10.50 an hour.I know what you mean about "some" nurses,I worked in a rehab facility for 30 years and I have seen nurses too preoccupied with gossip and their house reno plans than the job.One day I actually saw a child have a grand mal seizure in the cafeteria right next to a table with 2 of the social climber nurses and one of them actually told the mother to bring the child to the nursing unit as they were on lunch break.I have seen nurses who have gone way beyond what was required of them and do outstanding work above and beyond their duties.Luckily most nurses that I had the pleasure to work with were very consciencious and a credit to their profession. I agree that hospital worker salaries are way out of whack and the people who keep the hospitals clean and sanitary are sadly usually the lowest paid yet they have such demanding, necessary and at times dangerous jobs.

Just curious... regardless of where you are from, what do you think is a good hourly wage? What do you feel is that amount that one person should be earning to afford a quality level of life?

I am just curious because some statistics were revealed where I live the other day about registered nurses... some of the top nurses took over a quarter million dollars. A quarter million! Two-Hundred-Fifty-Thousand Dollars. $250,000.00 dollars.

The ones with experience are making $45 dollars an hour... $90 dollars an hour over time.... $1,000.00 dollars for a single overtime shift....

Needless to say, I do not make that much. The nurses that I work with are more concerned about food and gossip than anything. I don't even make half of that hourly wage, yet I am right along side the patients... exposing myself to VRE, MRSA, scabies and all sorts of good stuff. Cleaning up puke, feces and blood, blood, blood. Ever disposed of bio hazardous waste? It is fun. Smells great on a hot day just before lunch.

Stick me in the morgue and give me a dollar premium. That will set me on the path to retirement (or the mental hospital unit).

Make me clean operating rooms at 3 AM for 2 weeks so that maybe I can equal one days work of that RN who is sleeping around the corner.

I don't want this to turn into a medical rant but a discussion on wages. I feel I deserve much more for the hell I have to put up with. I could tell some good stories though....

I do not want to say how much (or little) I make. All I can say is I can feel your pain. I am a LVN in Texas and definitely do not make $45/hour. I worked in the hospital setting for almost 2 years before deciding that the clinical side to nursing was just waaaaay better. My current position is an immunizations/foreign travel nurse. I have given up the pleasant duties of cleaning someone's doodie, or messing around with someone else's body fluids.

Well, Minimum wage I think is $7 something an hour... Now I know singles that will make it on that, but I wouldn't want to... I guess you have... to set your own minimum wage and do what is necessary to achieve it. YMMV

i totally disagree. hard work will get you nowhere these days.
it just makes the higher ups look good and others richer.
in the end you get apayceck, if you can call it that, and thats about it.
its gone before you make it.

work smarter not harder.

Well, I have a car that runs and all the guitar equipment I'll ever need. All I need money for is shelter, food, water, insurance <_<, electric and utilities, and guitar strings, tubes, etc...

So I'll say maybe $12.00 an hour would keep me going. Of course I'd gladly accept more, but beggars can't be choosers (Which I think is false because I've met beggars who were quite picky about certain things ^^)

i don't know where to start....

i know several nurses, and none know anyone making 250k a year.

nursing is in high demand now, and hospitals are offering extra incentives to get nurses.

i won't say how much i make. i have no college at all. i started in the bottom of my industry in 1972. starting wage was 2.50 an hour. i worked hard, got moved up into inventory control, and managing a small warehouse operation. i showed up everyday on time, and was eventually offered a sales position in 1982- and me with no sales experience! here i am- same industry today, and have gotten job offers several times in the past from my competitors.

don't be jealous of those who worked hard to get where they are. work hard and you can get there too!

Hmmm...$7.25/hour. I would have to give up my car, wife, kids, and (gasp) guitar equipment; live in roach infested dump next to the crack dealer and meth-head to be able to "live" on Federal Minimum wage. I do not know anyone that can live off a 40 hour a week job making minimum wage and be happy and feel safe where they are in life.

And there are tax breaks for families making up to $250,000 a year...why? I can understand the family that is making 60K or less (btw I am not close to making this either) but 6 digit incomes do not need tax breaks in my opinion. I would love to make 6 digits a year.

How's this for prospective:

A kid right out of college playing ball can make $250,000 a year easily (most of the time a lot more). oooh run, catch, throw a ball...hardly life and death decisions there.

Your average EMT-I averages less than 30K, and RN 54k a year to make life and death decisions on a daily basis.

Even better...A Private in the Army makes less than 17K to defend and protect our way of life.

I would have to make at least $25/hour to get by without sacrifice. Fortunately I make significantly more.

So much has to do which what state you live in. The cost of identical homes differ drastically by location alone. I don't live a a very rich area but homes like mine still sell for close to 300,000 and most are 500,000 and up around me. My house is a just under 2000 sq.ft. brick row home with required natural slate roof.

Just the cost of living is such a pay factor as to what is needed. Maryland taxes are among the highest, the insurance rates, energy cost.
