Here's a couple of pieces of info that's food for thought about our wonderful Mississippi Valley Fair, held every August here in Davenport Iowa.
This year, like all years, they had 6 nights of country acts and one night of rock. ZZ Top was the rock act this year, drawing 25,000 people to one show. ZZ Top walked out with $150,000 at the end of it all. Rev Billy said "same three guys, same three chords for 4 decades". Impressive.
Country act Blake Shelton was 2nd in drawing power with 23,000 people.
Some country singer named Eric Church delayed his show by 45 minutes just so he could use his massive light show. That really pissed a lot of prople off, waiting for that much longer in the 90 degree heat.
A few years ago when Def Leppard was the rock act, some old lady wrote to the local paper and thanked the fair board for "hiring hearing impaired animals". If she only knew.

ZZ Top=Greatest 3-piece band ever? 8) 8) 8)

I think so...

They are going to be in Dallas in September with Tom Petty (hopefully I will be able to get some tickets, unemployment doesn't go far in these trying times!)...I've seen the Boyzz about a dozen times, but it would be the first time for Petty & The Heartbreakers....

Nevin,

Doesn't ZZ's type of music play well in Canada?

I just missed it by a couple of days, I just flew out from Des Moines on the 4th. Would have love to see those guys live.

I wish that we could get bands of ZZ Tops calibre here but sadly top rock acts don't come here often because being on an island there is quite an added expense transporting all the gear here.Alan Jackson has a 3 night gig here at the largest concert venue but he's not my idea of top shelf entertainment.I've loved ZZ Top from the first time I heard Tres Hombres and that's still my favourite ZZ Top album.

BTW here's a bit of Billy Gibbons/Jimi Hendrix trivia that everyone may not know.Back in 67-68 The Moving Sidewalk-Billy's first band- opened for the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Jimi was so impressed with young Billy's playing that he gave him one of his own Strats-a pink one-that Billy has to this day and understandably he keeps it in a humidity controlled vault.
