it doesnt seem that long ago that 4, 8, and 16 track
portastudios were the thing. they were easy to use and you could take them anywhere. times have changed and it looks like i have to again too.
so its moved to laptops huh? what are ya using to make recording happen?
i see these two piece groups at the local pubs. they seem to be running everything through their laptops too. what are they doing? im interested in a setup too. two different questions here folks. :D
any links to products would also help.

I have Guitar Rig 4, it's kind of fun to mess with. Has different amp models and effects and you can record with it. Although the recording isn't as full featured as didicated recording software.

There's a link to a free demo you can download at the bottom of the page.

I run Ableton Live, Reaper and Audacity on a PC.

On a dedicated Macbook, I use Logic Pro.

They're all just recording software. Different layouts and designs. It's very easy to do 16 tracks on just about any program these days without bouncing down. With bouncing you can get 64 tracks easily.

Bouncing is when you have several takes that you like and want to keep, but then keep adding more tracks...you bounce them down to two stereo tracks.

Just need an audio interface (to convert to digital)...this takes the place of your sound card.

The new BR-800 stand alone unit has some nice features too. It can be used as an audio interface using all of the BOSS COSM sound patches or can be used for mobile recording.

When my BR-864 finally chokes, I'll be looking at one of these :

I'm back in the dark ages,I have my old Holiday reel to reel and an old Sanyo stereo reel to reel and of course the old standby my Toshiba cassette deck-but it is a top-of-the-line model.I'm an analogue guy in a digital age.BTW tapes even cassettes are next to impossible to find these days.
