It was 15 years ago today that Jerry Garcia passed on. As one of Jerry's Kids, I was deeply influenced by his musicianship and by the length and breadth of his astounding career. We miss ya, Jer.

The San Francisco Giants are celebrating Jerry's life tonight their game against the Cubs with a Jerry Garcia Tribute Night and Jerry Bobblehead giveaway, and just like a Dead show at Winterland, the bobbleheads are Sold Out!

What a long strange trip it been...

I never counted myself as a "Dead head" I neither liked or disliked them.

But I was given some free tickets (Fifth row mind you) to see them live at Irvine meadows and the wife and I went.......I think we were the only two in the crowd not high on something.....sure was fun to watch the crowd.

It was also the first time I really listen to there music, they put on a 3 1/2 hour show, and I left there being a fan of there music.
Heck I didn't even know they had two drummers before that night.

Jerry was playing a guitar that I had never seen before, I later learned it was made for him by a fan of his.

Talk about dedicated fans, And I thought is was cool that he would play it as his main guitar.

Could you imagine walking up to Clapton and handing him a guitar you spent a year building and see him ever play it on stage?

Man,it's been 15 years?!
Jerry was cool, and he was a big bluegrass fan, which surprised me.
I saw a clip of him in the early days in a movie about the Hell's Angels, the interviewer asked him if he was scared of them....Jerry looked at him like he was an idiot and said "yeah!"
The guy asked why  Jerry looked at him like he was a bigger idiot and said,"cause they're big and mean and can fight good."
I think he was restringing a guitar all the while....for some reason that has always been funny to me.
