Ricky, all of the MIM "normal" Teles (I'm using normal instead of standard to avoid confusion with the Standard Telecaster) have the vintage style drilling pattern, so that Wilkinson bridge will bolt right on, as will the Fender 52RI bridge and most aftermarket Tele bridges.

Speaking of MIM Standard Teles - even though those bridges look like an American Standard bridges at a glance, they have the vintage style drilling pattern too.

Obviously, non-"normal" Teles like the '72 Telecaster Deluxe (Strat-style bridge) and the Nashville Power Tele (Fishman bridge) aren't part of this.

As for American Standards, there's Callaham and Glendale. I can't think of any others right off hand.

What body/bodies do you want to use?

George - I've got several (3) MIM Standard Tele's (2009-2010) that I purchased new and are still sitting in their shipping boxes. I want to swap them to ashtray style, 3 brass saddle bridges (Along w/ some other mods). At first blush, comparing them to my MIM Classic Series '50s Esquire and my Deluxe Nashville, the pattern looks correct, but I haven't pulled them apart yet to check.

I know my American Standard Tele bridge pattern is way different. Will the Callaham and Glendale's line up the original screw holes and still take the ashtray?

Your thoughts and ideas are appreciated...

RickyD

RickyD, your MIM Standard bodies are good to go for a vintage-style bridge swap. All you need is a screwdriver.

The Glendale and Callaham bridges made for American Standard and American Deluxe Teles will fit on your AS Tele, but the Fender ashtray cover will be too short, if it fits at all. Check out the length difference between your MIM bridges and you AS and you'll see what I mean. Personally, I wouldn't worry about not being able to use an ashtray cover since they prevent palm-muting, but that's just me.

Again, discounting the Teles with bridges that are obviously different - Strat-style hardtail, etc. - there are only two drilling patterns for "regular" Teles.

The vintage style has four bridge-mounting holes and these are closer to the neck than the six string holes.

The American Standard/American Deluxe type has three bridge-mounting holes and these are father away from the neck than the string holes.

Thanks George!

I knew from side-by-side the American Standard bridge was way different from my MIM's as far as being too long, but I figured their were better bridges for the MIA's. I just kinda like the looks of the ashtray - it does come off and on a lot.

I appreciate your wisdom!
