Its 5 watts but its loud enough for home use. At 5 you get great break up. You need to go check one out. Classic Marshall tone. Cleans up nicely with your gutiar volume knob.

Have you thought about a GA-5? I picked up a reissue 5 years ago. Great little amp.

Get a Marshall Bluesbreaker amp.

Quote:
Marshall 1962 Bluesbreaker Combo Amp
The Marshall 1962 Bluesbreaker Combo Amp is just like the one used by Eric Clapton during his stint with Mayall's Bluesbreakers and famously on the Beano sessions. With 30W output and 2x12 speakers, it produces a gutsy bass and vibrant top, coupled with an overall natural warmth. The valve rectification output stage, pioneered by Marshall in the early 1960s, is responsible for helping achieve the famed compression and sustain exhibited uniquely by both the JTM45 and 1962. Though somewhat tonally similar to a JTM45, the 1962 combo is loaded with 2 Celestion Greenback 25W speakers and also comes with a footswitchable tremolo effect.

I don't think the bluesbreaker has an effects loop, or you would be able to add a volume control between the amp and the speaker. You could probably use yellow jackets on it to cut the watts down.

Nevin, build one yourself and save a ton of cash. It's not a hard build.

Think about building a Tweed Deluxe...the 5E3 circuit....if you're not inclined to doing that, check out one of the new '57 Deluxes that Fender has.
They sound good and are not too loud before they break up.
OR,get a BF Deluxe Reverb and use an OD pedal at lower volumes...then you have more headroom if you need it than the tweed.

Nevin the closest you'll get to the tone you seek at a tolerable level is the Class5, unless you consider the amp emulation route. These aren't perfect but they aren't terrible. I will tell you even a 5 watt tube amp is going to rock your neighboring apartments, sides and/or above and below. so depending on the construction of your building even the Class5 might be too much.
