I decided to leave my band of 10 years, It was starting to become a huge headache, I didn't like the music we were playing, our bassist (wrote almost all the songs) wouldn't let anybody contribute to them and then would get angry when nobody would try to contribute to the music and on top of all of this is some great news that I found out Tuesday that my wife and I are expecting our first child! It was a seriously tough decision but I am leaving them on good terms so i can take care of my wife and my son/daughter.

D3,
You did what you needed to and you put your priorities of family first. If I were in the band with you I would have been your biggest supporter for that and thought more of you!
ABS :D

I agree with that very much. For the little it's worth, support coming to ya from this direction too.

Now, just as a point of discussion:

So many bands eventually get into trouble over this issue. People like Sting, Pete Townshend and others sound like very hard work to get on with in a band situation. Not much left for others to do - no fun.

On the other hand, if either of those gentlemen were writing the material I might be tempted to say; "Oh well, they're great songs after all. I can cope with the millions of sales..."

On the other hand... again. Sounds like your bass player's writing was not in the same league. Ultimately, if you're not enjoying the material you can't stay in the band forever. That's misery on top of misery.

You likely made the right decision, d3nyd94. Good luck for happier playing times ahead!

Cheers - C

Congratulations! It doesn't sound like all of a bad decision to leave the band though. A band is like a family, not a dictatorship. Yall gotta work together and do things that everyone is gonna like, can't have one guy who controls everything

Congratulations. Kids are a wonderful gift. Sounds like you have the world by the tail. You have a family, are still on good terms with the band, and your priorities are straight. Maybe someday in the future you will be playing in a band with your kiddo.

First of all congrats to you and your wife! :D And I think you made the right choice. Better to leave now on friendly terms than later in anger.

Great Fathers make tough decisions all the time....

Now that is one hell of a quote! With 4 great kids, the youngest of whom is 38, I not only survived fatherhood but they are all doing OK. Sounds like you have just made a very mature decision and it will ultimately serve you well.

Andybighair - loved the picture but last Christmas my son bought me a bottle of "cask strength" Scotch which brought it up to a "whole nother level". Google 'cask strength Scotch'

Congrats on the new family
