I've heard that some bigger Best Buy stores are carrying guitars and amps and pedals now. Has anyone ever bought gear at a Best Buy? How did it go? Would it be worth driving to the closest Best Buy that carries gear over going to my local Guitar Center? It would be about a 140 mile one way trip for me. I'm amp shopping and looking at a Fender reissue amp like a Vibrolux or a Deluxe.

no, it would not be worth it. They are not bad but no worth a road trip. Any sam ash or guitar center will have way more new and used equipment. I am not bashing Best Buy but they are an electronics store not a guitar shop. They do have some nice rigs but nothing that GC doesn't have.

At best buy you are buying a boxed guitar you can't try out. Not reccomended.

Our Best Buy is almost next door to our Guitar Center. The stores are located in the Ozarks. Best Buy has every bit as much stuff as Guitar Center, with out the moron help, and you can play anything you want, AND they will negotiate price!!! Since B.B. put the music shop in, I have not bothered with G.C.
Just my opinion,

I have a Best Buy about 10 min. from my house and I think it is a great operation. I do a lot of business with them on electronics but unfortunately this store does not do much with music. It probably varies by store.
I would call the store you think you might go to, to see how involved they are with the music portion of the business and if they have a music specialist to talk to. They are growing this business and may be very anxious to "deal".
They have always been good with returns if something goes wrong.

I have a Best Buy about a 20 minute drive from me, and I bought an American Deluxe HSS Strat there on closeout and got a heck of a deal. The help was much more friendly and knowledgable than my Local GC, and you can play anything you like but you must get a salesperson to get it off the wall for you, because they had a problem with people just pulling stuff off the wall and beating the crap out of it. I would travel 140 miles only if they have exactly what I want for a couple hundred dollars less than the local guys. I give my business to the guy that has what I want at the best price, with the best customer service.

I was just at a Best Buy in the same shopping center as a GC, frankly the prices and selection were better at GC. Best Buy was set up well and you could try out everything on the wall. They drum and acoustic rooms too. But GC beat on price and selection hands down. I bought a Dean Vendetta and a small Marshall amp and everything you need to get started for my son for $300 with GC's 2 year warranty for the Guitar, amp, and tuner. Not sure if Best Buy offers that coverage.

the vacuum store is a lot like the guitar store. but they do not attract the same clientele as the guitar store, cause if they did, the vacuum store would be loaded with a bunch of broke guys who just wanted to run the new vacuums.

I have never been in a BB with music gear, but as far as major electronics go (TVs, receivers, laptops, etc), I have always found their prices to be notably higher than elsewhere. Okay for routers and such, but bad for anything bigger ... but that is just my personal experience ...

The BB closet to me is 1/2 mile away from the GC I go to.

Nothing much in the BB...A Squier Guitar/amp combo, a couple of Casio keyboards and a drum kit. Drum kit was going for $199. A bunch of cables for instrument/amp connection.

Call first before traveling.
