Came yesterday through UPS around 5 o'clock. It may only have 5 very dead strings at the moment, but screw it. I'm playing this way until payday on Friday.

Okay, so a little information. The guitar is mostly original with the exception of the body finish/color (the headstock is still the original finish/color; it used to be vintage yellow that doesn't seem to photograph well in my pictures) and the bridge pickup may not be the original G&L-designed Schaller. Other than that, it's standard Superhawk fare.

I'm also reminded why I've liked a Kahler versus a Floyd. The Kahler has such smooth action and it isn't a complete PITA to change strings. I also like the fact it requires a lot less routing.

I'm also in love with the Strat-but-not-a-Strat body shape. The lower bout has a Mustang-ish flow to it.

At the moment, I'm calling her Blondie due to the yellow headstock. :P

Here she is with the whole famn damily:

I have four things to do to this guitar, in order of importance:

1.) Replace the strings (duh).
2.) Replace what's left of the old G&L/Guitar-Tech string lock with a Kahler string lock.
3.) Perhaps refinish the body one last time so that it will match the headstock again (and give it a very light relic job with just the right amount of nicks, scratches, and dings so that it will kind of match the wear on the headstock ... screw the fake as a 3 dollar bill, heavy relic finishes).
4.) New pickup mounting rings.

Yeah, Thats a sweet guitar, for something a little different. I've always liked the Kahler trem over the floyd rose. You picked up a nice one on that deal. Way to go. 8)

Well number one on the list is down. :P

I'm buying a new string lock tomorrow. Fingers crossed I might be able to locate some plates for the original. If not, I'll just buy the Kahler version.

I might also look into getting the body refinished.

I also took the neck off earlier to learn when the guitar was made, which was July of 1984, so this guitar would be fairly low on the production list, considering 1984 was the first year for the Superhawk. Additionally, the gutiar has been refinished not once but twice; the body was originally vintage yellow, then bright red, then white.

There's a place in Richmond and in Winchester that refinishes guitars. I might just call them up and see what kind of dough I'll need to restore the finish ...

Any suggestions about what to do with that locking nut? The original one is out of production (it was made by Guitar-Tech for G&L) and it seems like I'm not getting one on eBay.

I suppose there's the Kahler option, but I'm not exactly sure about what to do when it comes to mounting it as the screws go in completely different places.
