a strange question i know :D , i was sitting yesterday and i got a phone call from an old friend , real old , high school buddies ect , he has a band which has been going on and off since back then , i know the other guys well to , and in the last 4 years they have been making a go of it . The lead player has left them and that is why he was phoning me :D they have booked a rehersal room on wednesday and want me to try out .The last time i played punk was when i had spikey hair and a bad attitude :D i'm going to have to spend the next few days re learning a wee set list my mate sent me , i still listen to some punk stuff now and then so i'll see how it goes .
It's not really my kind of music per say but i suppose it'll get me out and about in the music scene again 8) i'll let you all know hew it goes , need to do some cramming :D

I played in a punk band until I was 32. Nothing wrong with that. It's not going to get you rich and famous, But thats not what punk is about anyway. Punk to me is just a LABEL put on by the music industry 30+ years ago. It's sloppy powerchord distortion thats fun to play. I do think taking it too seriously after the age of thirty will make one seem a bit Spinal Tap-ish on a good day, Downright ridiculous on most others. But having a group of people who want to jam is hard to find and Who cares what other people think anyway. as long as a good time is being had by all involved. Just don't quit your day job 8)

Some guys I went to school with recently reformed to do concerts with their punk bands from the 70s The Bubonic Plague and Da Slime. So I guess that you're never too old but most of us don't have enough hair left to spike lol.

As long as you feel ok with Punk music, you are never too old in my opinion. Punk is a state of mind, not an age.

Wouldn't being really old be in actuality very punk rock in itself?

Funny !.... In the true spirit of punk, yes, that is the way it should be... From what I can remember, the members of GBH back in the 80's were no spring chickens...

I am 41, and I can see myself playing punk... I most definitely wouldn't get the chicks like I did back when I played punk in the 80's when I had a 8 inch mohawk and I was 18 years old...

Dave King is 48 and he is the frontman for Flogging Molly, so that would be a no.

I say if your over the age of 40, you are qualified to play punk roock, because you were probably part of the original scene. I saw John Lydon give a thirteen year old kid wearing a "Dead Kennedy's" shirt a bunch of crap a couple of years ago. He told the kid that he wasn't even born when the "Dead Kennedy's" broke up. He told him to get a life and be more original for his age. The kid felt like a tool in front of 30,000 punks.

I happen to agree with John Lydon. Bands like Blink 182, Avril Levine, Green Day are not punk. Just because they buy their clothes at "Hot Topic" doesn't make them punk.

Punk is an attitude! The Ramones, SexPistols, early Buzzcocks, the Slits, Stiff Little Fingers, Patti Smith, Television,The Damned, Iggy & the Stooges, Subway Sect, the Clash, Generation X, Sham 69, "X", the Wierdos, Subhumans, Dead Kennedy's...etc. These are "Punk" bands. If you listen to them and learn their songs, you'll find out they're not all power chords played at a hundred miles an hour. Some of these guys could really write music.

-John Lydon for President!

good on you man, thats awesome! 8)

and kevinhd1200 is totally right. it annoys the hell out of me when people at my school call green day and blink 182 punk rock, an i say, "uhhh, dude there not punk. there pop punk. sex pistols, ramones and stuff like that are punk rock." and they say "who the hells the sex pistols?" it really pisses me off.
