I'm also buying with my money, but my dad always has the final say... :?

Mate, You're going to college now. Surely he can appreciate that you are old enough to make your own monetary decisions.

I have an '84 G&L US Superhawk in UPS transit as I'm writing this. Honestly, I couldn't be more excited to be making the jump from Fender to G&L.

There used to be a G&L dealer 30 minutes south of me and there's still another one around 30 minutes north of me.

I've tried the Tribute guitars and ohhh man. They may typically cost the price of a Mexican Fender but the quality is very much equal and in some cases generally better. No matter if you have a USA G&L or a Tribute G&L, you're going to have U.S. made pickups in whatever you buy. And the US G&Ls are even better than butter. I've mostly tried Legacys and S-Series G&Ls and I would never turn one down if I could happen across a good deal on one.

G&L is what I think Fender should be right now; the way the company is run, the way the company can more individually tailor instruments, the quality, the price/value ... A+ all around.

I hate to sound like someone making an infomercial, but I sometimes wonder why I didn't buy one sooner. Then again, I do love my two Fender Strats ...

I am not a G&L expert, I do like the instruments and play them when ever I get near one. The Tribute models are as good if not better than most non-G&L or non-Fender guitars, and that price does seem reasonable.

You guys are so right about the G&L brand. The G&L basses I've played and the ones I've owned are great. And yes they have there heads on right when doing the customer right as well. Making up a bass in 12 weeks to my specs, not some guy in an office saying how it should be made if I want to purchase one. I'll stay with G&L.

I'm going to the shop today and I'll decide one last time if I should go for it 8)

then I'll have to convince my parents, which will probably end with me pulling the "it's my money!" excuse...

Wish me luck!

G&Ls are good guitars. Even if it is a Tribute, you still get the american pups.

Jimbo,

Sounds like you will also get a chance to develop your negotiating skills. Remember that if this is a good store and good people you want to make sure that your offer is not offensive (ridiculously low) as that would just be offensive. I think $175 is OK ( 30% off) and explain that you are short of money for college. You should always have a fall back position in your head prior to talking. If he says no, are you prepared to walk? If not, what is your top end. Also you should know if you are cleared by Dad to buy before negotiating. This is Negotiation 101.

Have fun and let us know.
