nevin, without supervision, yes he is. but do we punish the kid for life for the mistakes of his "parents"? he's a kid. we both agree we did some stupid stuff as children.
i don't know about anyone else, but i'd step on an 8 year old kid like a cockroach if he harmed anyone in my family and not think twice about it. that includes my animals. what the heck kind of neighborhood is this and what country is it in?
seriously, around here, the whole family would be long gone.

mr. nevin, i respect your thoughts but i just can't lock a kid up for doing something i did as a BOY without giving him a fair chance.
after that chance, if he fails again, by all means, deal with him accordingly.
once again, REALLY GOOD BUTT WHIPPING. it works.

i'm thinking the kid just needs a better game console. maybe PS-3 or something in 3-D. you know like the rich kids. you can kill and kill with other folks all around the world and compete at killing. maybe get him an animal killing game. or better yet, get him an i-phone with an animal killing app. or does he already have this stuff? i don't know.
folks, there are criminals walking the streets as we speak with DWI's, rape convictions, child molesters and so on..... not to mention actual muderers. we're talking about a CHILD.
on second thought, just kill him. but do it in public.

while im against the "video games make everyone kill people" BS, they DO make those with severe mental disabilities kill things... be it the desire for the game (i remember a story of someone who was recovering from some major illness and did nothing but play xbox and when his parents took it he killed the father in his sleep) or the idea that killing in game is the same as real life

When he killed the dog the RCMP intervened and questioned him for over an hour before the kid confessed. I don't know about you, but at that age the police would probably scare me out of any more shenanigans.

I think it was 12 days later that he broke into the shed and killed the other animals. Obviously the kid just does not care and wants to do this. This is beyond parenting. Even if he was taken away from his current "parents" and given to the perfect textbook parents that ever lived, he would still be "screwed up".

He needs to be handed over to professionals for a few years of counseling....

The most disturbing fact that everyone is overlooking is that the kid is doing this on his own and seems to be quite methodical IMO. He waited for the man with the animals to leave them unattended before he went on his little kill spree.

This is beyond simple childhood horseplay.

Some leading psychologists and psychiatrists have said that violent video games can desensitize children to killing and decrease their empathy and value for human life.It seems that someone who is already preprogrammed for violence may be even more affected by such games. Now maybe the kid never had any access to video games as apparently he never had much anyway but if he did it may just have played a factor in it to some degree.

Well, i doubt anyone here is advocating that, this poor kid is a tragedy in the making. this situation is sad. This child NEEDS help, help hasn't and likely won't receive. It may in fact be far too late. look at the murder of two year old James Bulger, by two 10 year old boys, one of whom has just been sentenced at age 18 for distributing child pornography.

this child has taken his first few steps down the same kind of tragic road.

I often wondered what became of the monsters that killed little James Bulger-that's not surprising. It seems that some people are preordained for violence and with inbreeding any mental or physical anomalies the parents have will likely be even more pronounced in any offspring. This boy's violent behaviour and love of inflicting pain is just as much a part of his makeup as his hair or eye colour.
