I've been listening to Matthew Sweet CDS all afternoon and was thinking a what an under rated songwriter and lyricist he is.He got a fair bit of airplay back in the mid 90s with Sick of Myself but hasn't been heard of much at all. He did an 2 Under The Covers CDs with Susanah Hoffs that were masterful covers of great songs from the 60s and 70s,their cover of the Beatles" And Your Bird Can Sing is just brilliant and the lead break is a spot on cover of George's original. You can hear Susanah's Rickenbacker prominently throughout the song.So are there any other fans of "Sid" out there?

I did really like him back in the 90's. Girlfriend was a favourite song of his. Haven't heard much of his new material however.

"something in your eyes
that is keeping my hopes alive.
cuz i'm sick of myself when i look at you
something thats beautiful and true.
in a world thats ugly and a lie
its hard to even want to try.
im beginning to think, baby you dont know"

dude's the man. i have the altered beast album on cassette, which sadly is starting to not work right. might need a re-mag, i dont know. sometimes it works though.

he co-wrote for some other cool artists, such as The Jayhawks. awesome and underrated writer

I have not listened to him in a long time but I used to really like him. I never understood why he was not more popular.

I cannot express in words how much Matthew Sweet & his music means to me. If the album "Girlfriend" had not been recorded, I'm not sure I would be alive right now. It is as close to a "perfect" album as you can get IMO. His other releases are all awesome as well. Altrered Beast, 100% Fun, Sunshine Lies, all great albums with great songs. He's had a lot of ups & downs in his career and that sucks because he is awesome.

If you haven't already, you should check out The Thorns. Acoustic group Sweet formed with Pete Droge & Shawn Mullins. Awesome cd!
