Yesterday when I test drove my buddy's new Maze was the first time that I played my Guild S-100-SC through a Marshall in months.I realized again what a phenomenal guitar it really is/was.The S-100 had a fairly short production run-just 1970-78 for the humbucker equipped version-also known as the Polara. It was briefly re-issued as the Polara from 94-97 but wasn't promoted as much as it should have been. The guitar has a beautifully joined set neck that's shaped just right where neck meets body- almost like a neck through body guitar. It has a mahogany body and neck and a rosewood fretboard. The humbucker pups are about the hottest 'buckers I've ever heard but well capable of producing a delicious "woman" tone when the treble is rolled off and it sustains much better and longer than any Les Paul except maybe the old 58-60s with the PAFs.If you ever see an S-100 in a music store or pawn shop give it a try and be prepared to be blown away by the playability and tone of it.They come up on E-bay occasionally in the $1,200 range-well worth it for such a brilliant guitar. To hear an S-100 at it's best give a listen to one of Kim Thayill of Soundgarden's lead breaks-he swore by them and has accumulated a truckload of them.I think that it would behoove Fender/Guild to re-issue the S-100 and promote it's Les Paul slaying sound as many players true to the Fender brands would love to have a humbucker equipped guitar that doesn't have Gibson on the headstock.BTW it has an SG shape but doesn't have the annoying neck heaviness.

The Guild SG's are super guitars and in my opinion better than the Gibbys so far as quality and tone. But I am biased because Guild is my favorite brand of guitars. They definitely have a reputation as Gibson slayers among those who have played them.

I'd imagine yours has the vintage Guild HB-1 humbuckers on it? If so they are killer killer pups. If not and you post a pic or 2 I can get some info about it for you from the Guild guys at that forum.

I have heard rumors that Guild is going to be making the Archtops and some solidbody electrics again soon, but cant validate that. I know I wish they would make the Starfire IV again, I would love to pick one up.

I don't have a pic of the Guild alone but I'll try to find a post that I put up a few months ago and the Guild is in a group shot with my other babies. I don't know the exact name of the pups but she's a 74 and has a phase mini toggle that really adds meat to the tone when engaged. She's also the SC-standard carved model with beautiful hand-carved oak leaves and acorns on it,a lot of people passed it buy dismissing it as a country guitar and it languished in the music store for 3 yrs until I tried it through a 1959 Plexi and it was love at first note.

Wow the Acorn models are super both visually and with tone, I am going guess it does have the HB-1's in it and they are very highly regarded vintage pups. I'd never get rid of that one!
