Yeah that album is from the 70s, I believe I had a cassette of that album :) I don't think he was playing a Strat either, but nice tone back then!

Marc Roberty's bibliography of EC's recording sessions 1963-1995 put 'Brownie' in the studio in Jan 1970 for what would be the first solo effort. That guitar was used for the Layla sessions which began 40 years ago this month. Jan 13 1973, The Rainbow Concert, he used Blackie in the first show, the LP in the second. Starting in 1974 it's Blackie almost consistently. Four of the tracks from EC Was Here are from the Long Beach Arena Concerts of July 1974, one is from the Hammersmith Odeon in December of that year, and one from the Nassau Coliseum in June 1975.
The guitars played were the Blackie, Brownie, and a Gibson Explorer.

By the math, neither am I, but I understand that the Viagra people are working on a formulation to enhance guitar virtuosity in advanced age where speeding up is a plus. 8)

LOL that must've been what BB was on, he only slowed down a couple years ago, and as far as I know he's way older  Slowhand has been slowing down for 2 decades :P

Given his obesity, I speculate that BB's issue involve not only diabetes which is admitted, but diabetic peripheral neuropathy, hypertension, and congestive heart failure. It's a good guess that his kidneys are on borrowed time as well. Even Johnny Winter can walk still. We know of Eric's substance abuse issues and I would not rule out subtle neurological impairment as a consequence. They've all had their hearing shot to hell I'm sure. :? But Eric can still stand on his feet and give a show good enought to please his audience. His is a tough (and expensive) ticket to get. I know people who traveled to London from NYC to see the Cream reunion, and then saw it again at The Garden. That's the measure of the artist, virtuosity waning or no.

Interesting.. I don't have that album but the sample I heard didn't sound like a Strat, but it could be I guess. Things did sound much better back then :)

Good Blues CDs are getting harder and harder to find... if you can find them online get the 1934-1976 and Larger Than Life, oh and Burglar is great too. Maybe you can download them from Amazon or itunes?

ok so im 3/4 of the way through disk 2.
if you set and listen to this cd set you can see the changes eric has went through as a writer and player over the decades.
im not sure when i like him best to be honest.
the 80s he really took a change. a lot of his songs went on to back
products on tv and radios ads lol.
he really seemed to had left his stronger blues roots and went more mainstream rock. yes i know where rock came from, but you know what i mean.
im still out to lunch on him at this point.
is he a "god" on guitar? um...no.
is he the best? nope not even close.
did i find a few more songs i like by him? yes i did.
i can honestly say that ive enjoyed this cd set. it was nice getting to know eric a little better than i did before. i would like to hear/see more songs and video of him live and playing with some of the players
he reguards as great. after listening to this disk set and reading some of these replies ive gained a little more respect for the guy.
if i had to sum him up in a few short words, well,
"eric clapton, theres a little something there for just about everybody".
thanks for playing along guys. :D

Yeah both Albert and Freddie are not as easy to find, always plenty of BB. Try to find the ones I listed online, you won't be disappointed.

In the meantime enjoy some on youtube :)

you ever notice that the better blues guys almost always seem to have a keyboard of some type in the group?

That's cuz Freddie is one heck of a guitar player, but Hooker started the whole boogie thing...

BTW Live in Antibes has it on there too, almost 10 mins long! He mixes it up a bit.
