Today I went down to my 10X10 music room- that's become more of an instrument storage room-to get a guitar to try out my buddy's Haze and had a difficult time getting to the guitar I wanted as the case was behind several others. When I came back up I said-just kidding really- to the Missus and my buddy that what's the rec room should be the music room and vice versa-my wife thought that it was a wonderful idea.So now comes the daunting task of getting rid of the paraphernalia that has accumulated in the rec room as we have a lot of stuff that we took from my mother's apartment after she passed away.I guess it's time for a giant yard sale.I can't wait to have enough room to have a decent jam as it is almost impossible for me to play in the music room even by myself.Picture this scenario...27 guitars,3 other stringed instruments,10 amps-some quite large,3 keyboards,2 shelf units containing various guitar parts and effects pedals plus back issues of various guitar mags going back to "74-all in a 10 X 10 room-scary ain't it? The rec room is about 12 X 20 so I may even have room to put that set of Premier or Ludwig drums I always wanted ,of course that's if the little woman doesn't have a hissy fit.

Just be mindful of the "Fresh Coat of Paint" genie. Once that monster is let loose it is not happy 'til every room in the house has been patched, primed, sanded and coated.
Yes, that is the voice of experience. I'm taking August off for good behavior, but the can has been cracked and the goal is all rooms painted in time for the holidays

Good luck Guitslinger (post color swatches)

I have the "paint scheme"of the room covered as I have about 40 vintage Hendrix posters and several Beatle posters that will be adorning the walls, pretty well obscuring any painted areas.

I would love to have a music room. I have it aall planned out in my head, it'll be greatone day. Unfortunatley, I'm going in the opposite direction of my dream. 4 years of Uni, plus aa diploma course afterwards does not equal a high liklihood of having a music room :(

This is great! I am considering building a 10x10 music room this winter but this makes me a little nervous that it won't be big enough. Of course....what is big enough????

Hi Ceri,I'm leaning towards Premier as Keith Moon was my favourite drummer and the sound of his drums was like a thunderstorm in hell.Of course his strength and style had a lot to do with it.I'd like to get a setup like Moonie's if space and money permits, with double bass drums,4 semi toms and two floor toms and of course a massive collection of cymbals. I don't even know if Ludwig still makes my dream set-The Bluenotes-they had the same setup as the Premiers I described.Too bad the setups I want would cost a king's ransom.BTW that's a lovely Premier setup you have.

Thank you - it is kinda nice! :D Hate to admit it but Keith Moon was sort of an influence here too.

That's a maple Premier Signia kit, essentially a seven piece with the addition of an auxiliary snare and some Rototoms. I had them custom build it for me because I like "standard" sized toms and back at that time they were only doing "power" sizes, like most other makers. After they stopped doing the Signia tube lugs I found I wanted another matching snare drum so I had them custom build that too.

Each time the drums arrived with a little slip saying they had been "handmade by Kerry", which was fun (that's another spelling of my name and how it is pronounced, for those as didn't know).

Also, the pic shows some of my huge collection of Premier Trilok hardware bought new in the 70s/80s. That's partly why a big practice room is handy...

Please remember to come back and show us pix of your room when it's done. We're hot to see! :D

Cheers - C
