David Gilmour on "The Wall- Live". Listening to that CD is like a mini-vacation for me.

One of the best guitar tones I've ever heard is on Jeff Beck's 'The Final Peace' from his 'There And Back' album. Ok it's a studio recording but it's from, like, thirty years ago and I've always thought of it as one of the most amazing guitar sounds I've heard.
His playing isn't bad either. 8)

For me it's SRV. Honestly I liked his tone before I liked his music. One thing lead to another and now I really like all kinds of blues, but at first it was just Stevie and just his tone.

Ha - I can echo every word of that! :)

Also, just to throw in some variety. Howzabout George Harrison's jangly sound on If I Needed Someone and others? A much underrated tone that helped define a whole genre of music. Great stuff.

Cheers - C

Jimi, Stevie, Robin, Neal, Billy, Joe P., Zal. Too many to list because of the different guitar qualities but those listed got the best tone available out of their guitars for example; Zal played a SG at times so did the late Terry Kath, I liked Zal's tone better.

George Harrison, David Gilmour and Billy Gibbons.

I used to be into Nevin, but he's gotten too commercial.

I've always loved the tone that Jimi got from his Strats when he played clean such as in Little Wing,Angel,Axis Bold As Love,The Wind Cries Mary ,One Rainy Wish etc. those tones were the epitome of what a clean Strat should sound like.I also loved the sound that John Lennon got from his Rics and the Casino..especially the Casino. The inimitable tone of George Harrison was also readily identifiable from the early days until his Brainwashed CD,I loved his tone because no one else could duplicate it.

I just got my Dire Straits Alchemy Live Blu-ray in the mail today... I have to say Knopfler has one of the nicest Strat tone, so does Robert Cray, clean Strat tone that is.

Theres a couple for me. Eric Clapton really was my first great inspiration for playing, and I do love his playing. Recently i've been listening to John Mayer, and his style really appeals to me.

There was also this guy i seen on youtube once who was pretty great. No-one speciaal, just some bloke mucking around on his guitar. :P

Ritchie Blackmore always stood out for me, just something unique which stood out from everyone else, SRV, Billy Gibbons, Peter Green I could just go on and mention a whole list guitarists, thing is I could listen to anyone from Al de meola to Zal Cleminson to Nevin and get hooked on whatever there playing
