no matter what genre, in your opinion which guitarist has the best tone?

tone is subjective so there is no right answer. im just curious to see what people have to say

eric johnson probably gets my vote

Probably Nevin. Anyone who ever used a plexi at full blast and controlled it with their guitar volume is good enough for me.

Oh Yeah! :D

For me it's SRV. Honestly I liked his tone before I liked his music. One thing lead to another and now I really like all kinds of blues, but at first it was just Stevie and just his tone. I was into Metalcore at the time and I was amazed that he could get a Strat to sound big like a guitar with humbuckers. I used to just put a bunch of distortion on my Strat and it'd sound like bees in a tin can.

Me, because it is mine and I am not trying to copy anyone else's! I do admire EC's and Glenn Frey's! They are my main influences.

Brad Paisley gets an tone with a strat (see:She's everything) but I'm gonna go with Rory Gallagher since it sounds perfect for blues yet there's definitely an Irish influence in it.

What's that guy's name... oh yeah Nevin!

Oh I wanna also add the worst tone, can I do that please?? I find that Clapton has one of the worst tones I ever heard on a Strat these days!

Great. Now everybody is jumping on the Nevin bandwagon. I guess it was just a matter of time. :D

I am glad to see that there are others that are in love with their own tone. I enjoy the sound of my rig so much that it is a real pleasure to sit down and play.

+1 Anybody who can get a guitar to sound like a bass is OK in my book.
