It was at Biltmore in NC. Show was really good. Fans were unruly and drunk. But, My wife and I had a good time. He has a good live sound and his new co-singer is very entertaining. He got a little political about 3/4 of way through, that I can do with out. Weather I agree or not I did not come for a political rally. I came to hear and see an awesome band and in that department they delivered. It was an out door event and the weather was perfect (we got lucky). If you have not seen Biltmore, Google it and take a look. The venue was very impressive. :)

Deluxe Matt, glad you enjoyed the concert, I haven't seen Little Stevie Guitar Miller live since '69. His band was a trio at that show (opened for Sly and the Family Stone) and he had a couple of synth keyboards along with his guitar for those psychedelic sounds that were becoming popular at the time. An under the radar guitar great often imitated but there is only 1 Steve Miller. 8)

The war in the middle east, How it was started under false pretense and how the real patriots during the Vietnam war were the protesters. It was not much, just a few jabs at the opposing view. Then he dedicated a song to the troops? I bet if he told them they were fighting and risking their lives under false pretense they would not appreciate it to much. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a deal breaker. I just thought it was a little out of place. I paid good money to see and hear the band, not to hear them talk about one agenda or the other. I'm glad he takes a role in politics (we all should), however keep it out of the show.

Saw Steve Miller in the early 70's, mid 90's, and last year. All different venues, but both his music and guitar work were top-notch. Last time we saw him was on a bill with Eric Johnson, they did some blues tunes together that were phenomenal. If you have an opportunity to see Steve Miller, the music is a treat (minus political commentary).

Miller is another guitarist who never been given the recognition he deserves. He was schooled by some of the most respected names in the guitar world such as Les Paul,T-Bone Burnett and Muddy Waters.

Just when I was really starting to get into Steve Miller he went and had a political rant! Depending on what was said I may still go check him out. I was never a fan of his at all until I started reading about his past in Chicago battling Muddy and Wolf for gigs. As long as it wasn't a Pro-Obama message he was spreading then I would still go see him, otherwise I'll save my money and lose all interest in seeing him.

Man I hate it when rock stars have to lay their political B.S. on you. My wife and I once blew off a CSN&Y concert, partly because we heard about the political drivel they were expected to be spewing. As far as Steve Miller goes, well I have mixed feelings about him. It seems like he is in every guitar magazine lately. He has quite an interesting background. I never really thought too much about his guitar playing. His guitar tone always seems so dry and lifeless. A few of his songs I like quite a bit (Serenade, The Joker, The Stake). The rest always just sounded like stuff that gets too much radio airplay.

Don't misunderstand, It was not a rant. It was just a little out of place for my taste. I don't want to turn anyone off about Steve Miller. The show was great and so were the tunes. If you let something like this sway you, you will be missing out on some great music. He is doing some new 12-bar type stuff that is good. I don't agree with what he said, but I would go to another one of his shows.

Saw the Steve Miller Band last Friday in Corona, CA at the Fender Center's Campaign 800 Launch concert. I'm not a professional musician but I've been going to concerts of all kinds since 1968. Steve has a great band and a great sound. Even my jaded 20 and 18 year old kids loved the show. The guy's is almost 70 years old, but the sound is still fresh and extremely polished at the same time. The keyboard player is Joseph Wooten, brother of Victor Wooten. If you don't know about Victor, you should.

The first time I saw Steve was around 1973 opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd. I went to that show to see the Steve Miller Band and almost left after their set because Skynyrd was so poor in comparison.

Say what you want about his politics, but the work he is doing to support music education is extremely admirable. The Fender Center provides free music lessons for hundreds of kids every year. He actually took a couple of young guitar players from the school on the road with him this summer and had them play in a couple of songs every night. What an experience for those kids.
