hey everyone, just wondering if anyone can help me!

I bought a second hand jazz bass on ebay the other day, just got it yesterday, it was described as a 70's re-issue made in japan, replacement 70's neck (rosewood with block inlay and a nitro cellulose gloss finish) which was professionally fitted five years ago! got it for 500 euros, don't know what that is in dollars but im sure i got a good deal!

Now, i have no complaints, she is a beautiful, solid, fabulous looking (Black, with a 3ply scratch plate, and steel tone nobs) jazz bass and sounds great...only thing is...because of the replacement neck, there is no serial no on it, the neck plate doesn't either....

Does anyone know where else i can find a serial number on the guitar before i go doing unnecessary DIY!!!!

its just i want to know how old she is and to make sure it was MADE in japan and not crafted!

Thanks
DAve

I have four MIJ Fenders. The serial number on each is on the neck, so if you have a replacement neck you may not have a serial number at all. There might be a sticker under the pickguard and you might find a model number stamped or hand-written in the neck pocket but I wouldn't take the bass apart just for that.

If not having a serial number bothers you, you can buy neckplates on eBay with them, or you could take a blank plate to an engraver and have whatever you want put on it.
