You guys are 100% right on!
There IS tons of new music that appeals to us dinosaurs... Plenty of Indies and Locals with their own sound. Its exciting to hear Rock & Roll...
I think its just the "main stream" that I don't care for. (see thread "how did they get a contract)

Rock On Folks!

I agree that there's a huge amount of great rock music out there today but the pity is that most of it doesn't get any airplay as most of the radio stations are only concerned in playing the Top 40 garbage that's being churned out like M&Ms these days.In order to hear good music these days you have to tune into specialty alternative stations or satellite stations. Even most "classic" rock stations play songs that were vastly overplayed in the day and are still being played to such an extent that you have to switch stations when they come on.There's a station here that must play Triumph's (?) Boys In The Bright White Sports Care and We're Here For A Good Time Not A Long Time 3 times a day(great Canadian Content that's force fed down our throats).Songs like Layla,Freebird And Stairway...that granted were great songs have been overplayed to such an extent that to me at least they have become unlistenable.

There's been very few songs that I have genuinely found myself really enjoying over the last few years. MGMT's Time to pretend is pretty good in my opinion, and I heaard these guys on the radio and just love their song.

Revere- We won't be here tomorrow

I quite often go and listen to local bands, and some have potential. Others.....not so much.

I'd have to agree. Its not like the old days where you heard something on the radio. The industry is different. You have to search and find your gems!

I live not too far from the Canadian border and get all the Toronto-area FM stations. Their music selection seems to be slightly better than their U.S. counterparts, but you do hear an awful lot of Triumph, Rush and a handful of other Canadian acts. Seems like I hear 'On the Loose' by Saga just about every time I tune in! :)

I don't pay any attention to mainstream top 40 type music, but there are quite a few modern bands I like. My favorite right now has to be Carolyn Wonderland. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJV1Lrou55U

Watched that Austin City Limits with Carolyn Wonderland. I thought it was really good.

The downside of the current situation is that you have to spend considerable time sifting through the millions of Do It Yourself musical acts to find something you like. Services like Pandora and Spotify seem to work pretty well if you don't have ecletic tastes in music and don't mind the subscription fees.

There's good music out there, but finding it can be difficult sometimes.
