You just have to know where to look.

The Tallest Man on Earth:

Cymbals Eat Guitars:

Titus Andronicus:

Girls:

And of course, there are countless more examples. Stop trying to hear something profound on Top 40 radio. Expand your horizons. Music is better today than it's been since the 60's and 70's.

I'd have to agree. Its not like the old days where you heard something on the radio. The industry is different. You have to search and find your gems!

Even here where we are Tochai you have No Mean City, Million Dollar Reload, The Pocket Billiards, Not Squares, Bandwagon, Sweet Taste and more.

I'm friends with guys in all these bands as we often share a bill but they are doing very, very well. No Mean City are off to play Sonisphere after playing Download and T In The Park already. Among the other acts: working with Bumblefoot from GN'R, playing Glasgowbury, touring with Alice Cooper etc, etc.

All this from playing Lavery's once a week.

Music is far from dead......especially in Belfast!

[edit]: By the way all these band have a very modern spin on their respective genre's and are being noticed and sought after for those reasons.

There are a TON of bands that have been making some great music over the last 5-10 years. Just to drop a few names...

Broken Social Scene, Wilco, New Pornographers, The Flaming Lips, Titus Andronicus, Of Montreal, Beach House, The Shins, Grizzly Bear, MGMT, Vampire Weekend.

Not to mention all the great unsigned bands you can find in just about any city or town.

Modern Music is alive and well. If anything is truly 'dead', it's MTV and FM radio.

and 'guitar music' is alive and well, too! Check out the woman in this band -- she's the lead singer/lead guitarist for a New Jersey band called the 'Screaming Females'...

Saw this band perform live a few ago -- they rocked the house!

I hadn't really planned on it but I might go up. Bandwagon are playing and no doubt Phil will invite me. As well as that Sweet Savage are playing and I'd be interested to see Indigo Fury as I auditioned for them a while back and passed as it wasn't my thing, too Indie, so I kinda want to have a nosy at who they got on guitar!
