Other than working for my father mixing mortar and carrying bricks,my first "public" job was bagging groceries...at the time in Hendersonville TN. lots of country music people there,I saw Johnny Cash there many times...everybody needs groceries.
That was in 1967/68....wage I think was maybe $1.50 an hr.

1981, I was 14. I got a job working in a factory that made filters. I did a lot of sweeping up and packing of the product. Job was hard work but it paid very well. Even though I was under age (with a work permit though) I was making well above minimum wage.

amen nevin. as a pre-teen i hauled hay, mostly driving the old flat bed and unstacking in the barns. in the winter we went to the log woods. it wasn't full time but for a young punk it was good money and a damn good lesson in work ethic which is why mom sent me there. just a few years back i got to work on 2 ranches with a high school buddy hauling hay on a much larger scale. if not for the rise in fuel cost a few years back, i'd still be there.

Day job, not music, 13 y/o stock boy at a men's clothing store, it is a rather large Japanese restaurant now, man that was long ago. $1.10/hr, after a few months I got a raise to $1.25/hr the minimum wage at the time.
