Last night, my wife and I saw a screening of the newly restored Metropolis (1927). The film contains 25 minutes of new footage that was just discovered in 2008. This footage reveals new scenes and new characters, and it fills in some major holes in the plot. So even if you've seen Metropolis, you've never seen Fritz Lang's cinematic masterpiece as it was meant to be seen.

If you can't catch it in the theater, look for it on DVD & Blu-ray in November. But either way, you have got to see this film! 8)

Awesome!(says the guy with metropolis in his screen name). Thanks for posting that! I'll definately need to catch this in the theater and replace my old DVD with the new one.

I have several versions of this film. (there was some lost footage found a few years ago as well). It sounds like they keep getting closer and closer to the full version!
I guess I will need to buy it again :)

I hope they have a decent soundtrack as well.

This was always one of my favorite films. I remember the first time I saw it in Film History class, I was blown away by Lang's vision and the sets.

It's better and more complete than the 2003 FW Murnau Stiftung version, which I thought was excellent. This new version features more of the Thin Man, Josaphat and Georgy 11811 than previous versions did. In fact, the entire first half of the movie is now completely restored. There are no intertitles for missing scenes until Freder goes to the cathedral.

The soundtrack is a new recording by the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra of the 1927 Gottfried Huppertz score. It meshes very well with the action on screen.

If you're already a fan of this great film, you will be delighted by this restoration. And if you don't already know this masterpiece, this new version is well worth a look. Check it out! 8)

The restoration that came out a few years ago was excellent.

Can't wait to see this version.

Wow thanks for sharing!

I'm still blown away by some of those old films and what they could do without the benefit of computer graphics. Plus some movies lend themselves so well to black and white.
