You can still pick up used late 60s Bassman amps and cabs for a pretty good price. Ipaid $200 for my '68 Bassman amp and $250 for the 2-15 cab with the original Fender speakers. So for $450 I got a sound that's worth a million.BTW I didn't notice what letters were on the speaker backs so I could tell who made them and it's a real pain taking out the huge number of screws that hold the back on-maybe some day when I'm real bored.

I've always thought pedals were there to enhance sound, not to tone destroy as it was put.

Most are built with a on/off switch after all.

Mr Cool, it's all about the dials aint it. Never seen Buddy Guy worrying about the effects he puts through his Bassman, have you?
Call me silly, but, I think I'll stick with whatever makes me smile.
I'm sure I'd be smiling a lot with a Bassman. I'd probably smile with a Bassman making wheeee, whiiizzzz, wow, parp, bzzzzzz noises too. Until then, or I get the ultimate JTM45/Bassman cross amp (yes I know, I know). I'll just make do with what I use now.

+1

While there are tone-sucking and sterile pedals out there, there are plenty that complement and expand guitar tones as well as add to the sonic pallette...with everything in life, you just have to be choosy.
