i ended up picking up an epi dot vs with an epi case for a very good price , the dot is 3 years old but i would say played once or twice , the guy got it to learn on and gave up , the body is spotless and the frets are unmarked , and very dull , it still stinks of wood glue which indicates it's lived in it's case 8) . It needed a few frets filed a wee touch and i replaced the buzzing bridge with a gotoh , rubbed the fretboard for 20 mins to get the brown dye of it and a wee adjustment for hight on the bridge and neck relief and it's feeling good (the strings were about 12mm / 1/2 an inch above the fretboard when i got it , no wonder the guy gave up ) i'll get a few pics up tomorow , it's going to need a load of playing to age and settle the wood down , but initial impressions are good 8) , cheers
Alan

Hey Alan,
First congrats on the find. Sounds like a solid deal. Im interested in your opinion of the quality of these EPIs your buying... Are they as good, or dare I say better than the Gibsons??? Just wondering??

Congrats Alan and yup, could you voice your opinion on them, because I'm tossed between the Casino and the Sheraton myself. I already have a Gretsch 5120 and I love it to death, but I would also like to have an Epiphone someday. :)

Congrats Alan, Wow, I was going to post also, But I thought, Well, It's just an Epiphone, But I bought a Dot Last Night from Craigslist also. Same thing almost. Mine is black, and the guy said Eight months old. I looked at the manufacture date it says '09. Got it for $250.00 and it is in brand new condition. not a scratch on it. I had to put on a new set of EB Slinky's "10's (I use nines on my strat) and it sounds great. I like it a lot. No way can I afford a 335 but the Epi is a great guitar. On the dirty channel on my Marshall MG15, It gives out a nasty snarly tone through the bridge PU and Sounds nice and blusey when you clean it up and flip up to the Neck PU. I was suprised how good the pickups sound, But I may get a set of Fralin Vintage Humbuckers to put in there . I Know it will sound Awesome then.I cant post pics because I have linux and I cant get a wire to connect, They only have them for Mac & Windows. Anybody thinking about buying one I recommend you do and get one used. Great Cheap Guitar. 8)

thanks guys 8) , bill and claude ,i would not hesitate to recomend an epiphone to anyone ,be they newcomers to guitar or seasoned vets :), i have no complaints about any of my three epiphones , the build quality is excellent as is the finish ,the only minus points are sometimes they need a little fret work done and the electronics , i like to replace the pots with cts pots and wire them up 50's style using braided wire and pio caps ,this is easy to do and relatively cheap ,it also really opens up the tonal quallities of the guitar. if you really want the best sounds out of it a set of good pups don't go wrong 8) also the stock bridge can rattle and buzz , i replace that with a gotoh nashville bridge (very cheap) and when your done if you got it second hand you will have a very sweet guitar for not a lot of money , the manager of my local music store said my epi lp would stand it's ground against any gibson les paul 8) the guy is a gigging muso as well :D hope this helps guys :D
marvin , congrats mate , as i said above if you want the best sound out of your dot change the pots as well and put pio caps in when you change the pups and deffo get a gotoh bridge (stewmac do them) you can hear the diference in the sound level straight away 8) and one of these days i'm going to try a gotoh tail piece 8)

Thanks for the advice, I am certainly going to be upgrading it. I like the Idea of upgrading it '50's style like you described. I definitely will be changing the bridge. 8)

I wish I could post some pics, But I can't on this computer because I run Linux and I havent got it figured out how to do that just yet. The Gibson '57 P.U.'s sound the way to go. I have been playing (mostly still learning) some of the tunes off Abby Road. She came in through... I want you, Golden Slumbers, etc. on the epiphone, What a blast, My fingers are sore because I keep 9's on my strat and The Dot is made for at least 10's. The neck is a beast compared to my strat (9.5radius on the strat) I do find the strat neck more comfortable, but I like the semi hollow body sound w/ H-Buckers. I'm getting used to it. Great guitar.

Hi Allen, My son just bought a blonde Epi Casino and a blues deluxe, after a 13 year break from music. The good news is he brought it to me to keep for him while he is in the process of buying another house (oh darn). It needs a good setup but is playable out of the box, it sounds real good and the fit and finish is pretty good also. I don't think I would trade my Sheraton for it, but still it's a good guitar. He bought his Casino at Guitar Center and the kid working there told him it was a Dot, My son told him it was a Casino, but the kid kept insisting it was a Dot so finally my son gave up and bought the Casino for the Dot price  . Ya gotta love Guitar Center, enjoy your new Casino they are great guitars

You got yourself a great guitar Alan, the Epis are certainly equaling and in many cases surpassing the corresponding Gibson models in every way.My cousin just bought an Epi SJ 400 acoustic electric and it's just a fabulous guitar and it's handmade in China, not cranked out like cookie cutter guitars.

Nice one Alan mate!

I wouldn't mind one of those myself.

Never made it to Scotland this summer yet due to lack of funds but I hope to get a go next time I'm over.

Enjoy!
