Anyone here try this guitar out? I've been reading online and it got mixed reviews. Just wondering if anyone here actually tried one. Just curious. It's a lightweight guitar so wondering if anyone gave it a go.

Thanks.

Here's the link just in case no one knows what I'm talking about.

Its like any other Melody Maker but this one has a pedigree and an inordinate price tag.

Melody Makers are obviously small, thin guitars and that makes them very easy to play. Typically they need a powerful pickup to compete with the majority of most other guitars out there.

Melody Makers have the typical older SG problem of, "Wow". This is how easily the neck can be bent back because it joins the body on a high fret and there is no substantial hunk of wood to reinforce the neck in place. This condition also creates chronic intonation problems as varying hand/arm pressure is constantly imposed on the neck even under normal playing circumstances. This in turn, induces "Wow" which in turn microscopically bends the neck to where the intonation by necessity goes in and out at varying degrees in direct proportion to the aforesaid varying hand/arm pressure.

Lastly, don't kid yourself, a commercial, off the shelf (COTS) Gibson Melody Maker Joan Jet Signature Model is NOT the guitar Joan uses.

It looks like a cool guitar Lady, but the price is off this planet. If it's what you want then that's it. Wouldn't hurt to explore your options though. There's lots of nice guitars out there to try.
Very familiar with the "WOW" problem having owned a Les Paul/SG Jr. for forty four years. Very hard to get the intonation bang on. But until I put a BadAss bridge on it, it was dang near impossible to tune anyway. Frustration level is way down now :D

LVA,

If you are willing to spend $900+ for a light guitar, have you looked at the Jackson or ESP LTD guitars? For that much money you could almost get a Fender American Standard.

The Melody Makers are light yes, but also have a tendancy to break and go out of tune easily. Have you had a chance to play one? Have you played the regular Melody Makers? They are a little cheaper and they come with a P-90 instead of a Humbucker.

I look at it like this, if you liked it when you played it, it is the guitar for you. I am just throwing options out there for you.

I'd check out a Paul Reed Smith SE Custom Semi-Hollow guitar.

Light, and they have a great resonence. I tried a P-90 version, and it was great, I really wanted to buy it. Awsome tone, great feel, great looking... it had it all. Except a whammy bar.

Okay thanks. Won't even consider. I was just curious because being a gal, I just like to see what other gals play and since it was supposedly custom made to her specifications, I was just curious.

Tossing aside.

Moving on.

If you want a light guitar, start looking at semi-hollows...
