Always on the search for good tone. Anyway, I have tried amp modeling software in the past. I would download a demo, rig a cable to my laptop and it would sound like crap.
Then, a friend left his POD X3 Live at the house and I decided to try it out. Hooked it up as a USB interface and tried out Apmlitube3. Wow! I never new that modeling software could get so close to the real thing. They have really captured some of the natural dynamics and harmonics to reproduce some very nice tones. Now, how do I make my friend forget I have it?

Hmm. This could work. There was nothing I could do and, by the way, I am moving to Alaska. So you will never see me again.

Many seem to prefer recording direct with sims, such as Pods and I agree that you can dial in some great tone to simulate your favorite amp sounds without having to mic up an amp. Also, some of the effects are wild!

I use a tube preamp to go direct to the computer. Nothing needs to be emulated but a speaker, which is built into both my tube preamps. It is the real thing, no modeling required.
