TGS, awesome chops! I have huge respect for anyone who can command a drummer with the mere point of a finger.

Thanks, I learned that one from watching Jimmie Vaughan last year. Works great, as long as you and the band are on friendly terms.

And next week I'm planning to participate in an open jam with the San Antonio Blues Society. I'll let everyone know how that goes! 8)

Yes, do that! :D Jamming is some of the most fun you can have playing guitar.

On a side note, I just went to Antone's again to catch Hubert Sumlin and Derek O'Brian. I'm really tired right now so I'll keep it brief. Great show, lots of great musicians and some surprises. I walk in and the first person I see is Chris Layton on drums. I was standing right next to him a couple of times, but I got star struck and couldn't speak. He's probably my biggest drum hero. And I didn't bring a sharpie or anything to sign, which meant I would've had to say something other than "Excuse me, could you sign this?". :P So the lesson is learned, never enter Antone's without a sharpie. I didn't play this time, but I said hi to some people I knew and have a good amount of new licks to chew on. Lots of fun, I'm tempted to move to Austin just for Antone's.

Thanks for posting, I have always appreciated Chris Layton's drumming, being star struck is human nature, I was tending bar at "Beginnings" an old club in the Chicago suburbs and Johnny Winter was my responsibility which meant that I had to keep him supplied with a case of Blue Nun (white wine) on ice at all times. I stood in front of him in the dressing room at several times during the night and couldn't utter even a hello. I wish, of course, that I had said something, but, I will, if ever there is another time. Wish that you and your Dad were up here in Chi as I have been playing some blues tunes when not working on my music, keeping it to myself as I don't want the hard whiskey rockers that I jam with to think I'm going soft, but I always did like a good blues tune.

Well, your clearly learning from all the right people!

I have a feeling that once any band you play with hears your chops, you'll get their respect, no probs 8)

My only advice to you would be to maybe consider Bigger Hair

Enjoy!

Andy
