So our new cd is out, and there's a Hawaiian radio station playing my song. Island Radio 98.5 likes the song. I've gotta say, I'm pretty stoked about it. Today it was played right after a Bob Marley song.

It's the first time I've ever had one of my songs being played on the radio. I'm not sure how to react to it sometimes. But.. Hey, I like it. Very cool. The song is called Jah Soldier. Here's a link if you wanna take a listen:

What can I say? I'm happy and excited about it. I've only been playing Reggae for 2-years, and this was the first Reggae song I wrote in the band.

I would first like to apologize to you shred, I saw your picture and thought "Oh God, not another thumpin' metal band", bit I then listen to your song and i must say, it was great, I loved it.

Sorry I pre-judges it, but I am glad I did hear it now.

That's cool man. I used to play Metal before joining this band. The change in Genre has been a complete blessing. This band is really making some great strides pretty fast. I've had the nickname SHRED for about 25-years. I just couldn't see myself changing it. Too many people know me as that. But I understand the confusion.

Most of our fan-base is Hawaiian here in Vegas. They affectionately call me Shreddah..

Thanks for listening. I'm glad you enjoyed it. 8)

Irie Shreddah! I too was expecting to have my face melted, but this is much more down my alley. Very nicely done, you have really captured a nice reggae sound on both of the songs. What is your role in the band - vocals, guitar, bass? Are those your guitar solos? If so, very well done.

I am also curious what guitar effect is being used on Sky Down on the opening guitar and on the last solo starting at about 4:45, some sort of auto-wah or envelope filter?

First, thank you very much for the compliments. In the band I'm mainly the lead guitar player. But these two songs are the ones I wrote and sing in, as well as do the solos. The Bluesy guitar stuff in Sky Down was done by our other singer/guitar player.

For all of you Squier players, Jah Soldier was done with a Squier CV 60's with Benson Custom handwound pickups.

To answer your questions about Sky Down.. The beginning of the track we had a little fun with. The effect you hear was done by mic'ing a Marlboro-Box Amp and running the wah through it. Did we HAVE to do it that way? no. It was just a fun little experiment. I was going for a sound of a small transister radio at the beach kind of sound.

At about 4:25 what you hear is a Digitech X-Series Synth wah and Delay for the swells, then a Hyper-phase going into the solo. Everything I do on the recording I do live as well.

All of the other wah stuff in the rhythms for both songs, and solo for Sky Down were done manually with a Crybaby modded w/ true bypass.

Once again, thanks to everyone for stopping by for a listen. I am really flattered to have a song on the radio in Hawaii. That's a very big Reggae market, so I do see it as a milestone. It wasn't something I expected to happen. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard the news.
