Me and my uncle are getting a new amp for me. I've narrowed it down;
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Orange-Crush-PiX ... 27b323c65d

orange crush 35 watt

or I keep saving and get a marshall haze.

Your input would help.

What's your price range?

What kind of tone are you going for?

$700-$300. My uncle has that exact orange amp he brought it over and had a bit of a jam with me, it has some really awesome tones in there 8) So not that fussed on the tone, it just has to be a wide range.

I could see the orange being a cool amp. I usually HATE them, but this one is much more versatile. To me they have always been 1 trick ponies.

You say 1 trick pony like it's a bad thing :D

Haha, I'm not trying to defend Orange. I could care less for them too. I'm just saying, most awesome amps are in general one trick ponies. I'm a Marshall freak myself and JTM45, 45/100, 18 watt, bluesbreakers, etc. are all one trick ponies, but that's really the only way you can get amazing tone like that - by focusing on one thing and doing it really well.

radio_friendly: As described I am much in a different camp as far as what I'm looking for in an amp. But I do know Vox has some small combos that have lots of different distortion options and sound halfway decent if that's what you're looking for. So maybe check some of those out.

I started out with a marshall AVT20 which would have a lot less options but sound wise was fine for what I needed it. But when I started becoming a tone freak and needing tubes in my amps I left it behind and never looked back. Point being, don't expect to get an amp like this and never desire another.

Also for that price range also maybe check out some blues juniors or something...

But I think your best bet might be a vox.

Hi Riley, with either amp you can't go wrong but for overall tone and bullet proof reliability I'd give the Haze the edge by a fairly large margin.BTW my jamming buddy just ordered a Haze Combo after buying a Zak Wild Marshall Micro stack because the Haze had the tone and volume he desired. For some reason a 40 or 50W Marshall always sounded louder than other amps of the same Wattage,I don't know if it's my mind and ears playing tricks with me or they are being very conservative with their Wattage estimates.Maybe other companies are overstating their amps power also.Post pix when you make your choice.

I love the sound of orange amps… they have a cretin low end kinda hard to explain dark ZZ sounding kind of thing going… Marshall has that tight mid range lead punch that sounds good for metal leads…
Just depends on the sound you’re looking for…. My preference would be the Orange but that’s me..
Problem is Orange is hard to find outside the UK unless you ordering online an until recently not many dealers carried them…

Don’t take this the wrong way man but I don’t think either of those particular models ( Crush / Haze) are that great of Amp in comparison to what else Marshall and Orange have available…

I would really save up a bit more an consider the Marshall MA series, DSL 50 / orange Rocker 30, Rockerverb 50 .. those are going to be better sounding much more reliable amps than crush or haze……

But hey my opinion only…. Happy shopping

Cheers
Bill

Riley,

I am saving for the Marshall Haze 40 watt amp myself. I have looked at several tube amps, and for the music I like to play, this on is the one for me. I have not heard the Orange Crush in action, but the Haze has all the bells and whistles I am looking for, plus one hell of a BA tone that only Marshall tube amps can deliver.

Hey Riley,
Im kinda leanin' toward the Orange Crush... With the pedals you have, I think it would go a long way! Have you been anywhere to try them out? Both amps have a different feel from one another, you should see if you could tst drive. Just my opinion though.
Good Luck, and hang on to that Uncle he sounds like a real nice guy!

I like this one better:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXUVeGdi4Bc

Of course it is just a basic demo. I will dial in my tone later when and if I get one. For now I have to save another $799 before I can even look at one in the store. Oh yes I do not touch unless I can pay. I have also been eyeballing the Marshall Class 5, but only if I cannot wait to buy the Haze.

I do like the Orange Terror, but that is expensive for just a basic tube amp head.

Dude that guy is DISGUSTINGLY good. Leave it to an asian to doo doo all over my life, ... again. But you're right, this is what I mean when I say 80% of the tone is in the hands... a good player will make a bad rig sound awesome, and a bad player will make an amazing rig sound awful.

Oh and here's him doing Giant Steps.

i just listened to a demo of both amps on youtube.
i listened to 2 or 3 of each to be fair with my opinion.
the marshall sounded pretty good but to me thats to many pieces for
a amp of such low wattage lol. i would buy a combo and call it a day.
looks cool yes but to many pieces. in few words, its cute.
ok for the orange. man i just dont know where to start. i can tell right off
your gonna need a snake charmer on speed dial. the hiss that thing will put off in the wrong conditions will be a nightmare.
its very airy sounding like a crate amp turned up to high.
i wouldnt give it a second look. again just my opinion.

for that price i would look at the egnator, marshall class5, or a blues jr.
