My wife, who's totally awesome, just suprised me with tickets to his concert here in Illinois this Friday. She called my boss and asked if I could get the night off of work and the whole shot. Totally awesome and super excited. Huey L and the N has been a fav band of mine since I was a kid in the 80s.

Sorry about the post, but I just needed to share the news ha ha.

Gotta love Huey! One of the better bands to come out of the 80s.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when "Sports" came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, "Fore!," their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey Paul! I liked Huey Lewis AND the News, He dropped the news and didn't last too long after that. His style changed somewhat at that point. the album with "This is it" and "Do you believe in love" Great album. Great to get the chance to see him again, Have fun. BTW, is the show in a casino? Just wonderin' 8)

I was lucky enough to jam with "The News" minus Huey for one night. The band I was in was playing at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Philly back in the mid 80's; they were staying there and we were playing there. It was one of those times I wish I had a camera and a tape recorder. They later told us that Huey never stays at the hotels, choosing rather to fly around the country.

Hi.

Yes I have tickets to see them at Chinook winds over on the Oregon coast.
This is a great venue as it only seats 3000 and there is not a back seat in the house.
They will be there August 20 & 21, have my hotel room and all to make a weekend of it.

Hope you had a great time! I always liked them. They prided themselves on musicianship..not flashy stage shows and props! great show when I saw them in the 80's

Enjoy the show!

We saw them a couple of years ago and thought that their 'live' shows
were far better than their recordings (although those are good too!)

I have their CD, 'Four Chords & Several Years Ago', that gets a lot of play in the car. Some real classic tunes on this one!

the thing about hl &tn is not only the great musicianship, but the harmonis too. in addition, they seem to be the type of guys you'd like to hang with

On a recent roadtrip, we listened to Huey's greatest hits a few times. Besides the great musicianship, the songs are sooooo well crafted. Great songwriting.

Huey Lewis & the News rank up there as one of the best 80s bands ever--along with the Cars, Joan Jett, U2 and Pat Benatar. I was a child of the 80s, but there were very few pop bands from that era that I actually liked (I just listed most of them!).

Most of the bands/artists with hits from the 80s that I liked had already been established (ZZ Top, Stones, Tom Petty, etc) or weren't "pop" (SRV, Dwight Yoakum, Georgia Satellites, etc).

As for their harmonies, it's hard to beat "Bad is Bad"--that is a great tune...Huey is also VASTLY underrated as a harp player (harmonica for all you non-blues cats).
