The results of my recent bone scans show that the pain in my hands isn't arthritis as was originally thought but a combination of carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome.Last week I started chiropractic treatments on top of the accupuncture treatments and the combination of both seems to be making a difference. The chiropractor gave me some exercises to do several times daily along with ice packs applied to my hands and forearms several times a day too.She said that the muscles in my forearms, wrists and upper arms are impingeing on the nerves and this is most likely contributing to the condition. The acupuncturist said that my posture was also a factor as she could tell by my posture that I used to weight train and said that many weight trainers develop the same condition years after they stop training.Anyway it seems that I may be on the path to recovery and Please God will be able to get gigging to support my GAS and $@! (amp stockpiling syndrome) again.

Yes, I'm glad to hear you are making some headway toward a recovery. After my acupuncture, it's taken about a month for the feeling to totally return to my left two little fingers. I have been playing daily and stretching my hand during the day. Always warming up before I start to play,( i never took that too seriously before but now I realize) also, I have done some weight training in the past, but no more, I realize the drawbacks to that as well. Now I do cardio, swimming , some yoga stretching every day, and I have two 15lb dumbells I lift, just to keep some tone. I have come to learn the hard way, Heavy Weights damage your body. 8)

Great news guitslinger! Glad that you are improving. You certainly are pro-active about your condition and that is great, all good vibes coming your way from Chicago.

Thanks for all the support folks, like Marvin and me there are no doubt many guitarists in the same boat,Les Paul and Leona Boyd come to mind.It can be a devastating prospect to loose the most important activity in your life but through determination and support like you folks give even this can be beaten.BTW little did I know that the weight training I was doing years ago to keep fit would cause such future problems.I didn't power lift but did reps of bench presses and curls with weights never exceeding 120 lbs,so even that amount can come back to haunt you. Thanks again all.

Wow ...never knew weight lifting could present problems! I've been doing it now for about 6 years...maybe I should watch it.

Glad to hear your "feeling" is coming back!
All the best to you,

-T

Best wishes and positive mojo to you for continued healing.

If surgery is eventually recommended,
my wife had surgery for carpal tunnel in both hands about
ten years ago and it helped her tremendously.

Remembered your post guitslinger and that you had been diagnosed with carpel tunnel, but seen a few posts with similar arthitis themes so thought I'd give a heads up on something I read recently

Thanks folks, thanks for the link Ripitup, come to think of it my hands did seem to get progressively worse when I quit drinking any alcohol some years ago but I never associated my hands with it.When I went down South a couple of months ago I started having a few drinks again and that may be contributing to my hands getting somewhat better.
