John Lennon could be immortalised forever on a commemorative coin if he takes the lead in a groundbreaking poll.

This Day in Music.com is running a campaign to make all music fans aware of this and asking everybody to vote for John.

For the first time in its 1,100-year history, the Royal Mint is asking the public to decide who should be commemorated on the next coin in its Great Britons collectable series, alongside Shakespeare, Churchill, Charles Darwin, Florence Nightingale and Sir Isaac Newton.

Everybody please vote for John.

Vote online before July 31, at http://www.royalmint.com/Annex/GreatBri ... mcode=FS4A

I'm sorry but my vote is going towards Emmeline Pankhurst. Her rendition of "God Save the Queen" really does it for me.

I'm kidding, I don't have any idea who she is. Of course I'm voting for John Lennon. I can't believe there isn't a coin or stamp already dedicated to him.

I have a deep love and respect for John Lennon as it was him that inspired me to become a musician and everything good that has happened to me is either directly or indirectly attributable to John.It goes without saying that this great man gets my vote.

I wouldn't approve his passport to hell! Of course, he's already there! The other three were ok, but that dip had a a way pissing everyone off

I wouldn't say that"dip" is in hell but sitting comfortably next to the Sacred Throne.John Lennon may have said some inflammatory things in his lifetime(who hasn't?)and was often misquoted or taken entirely out of context-As in the "Beatles more popular than Jesus"fiasco-so papers and gossip rags could sell more copies. In his latter years John Lennon did more to further world peace and to eradicate pain and suffering of the oppressed and downtrodden than any non political person alive at that time. For this selflessness alone his reward will certainly be in Heaven. BTW the whole Beatles/Jesus thing was John making a sad but true commentary on the state of the world of that time.He was merely saying that young people would be more likely rather go see a rock group(he used the Beatles-unfortunately-purely as an example)than see Jesus. Also his widow Yoko Ono is continuing John's crusade for world peace and to end suffering of humanity.I think that many would agree with me that John Lennon was a giant among men and that the world would be a much better place if we all took what he had to say to heart.

I voted for him but I personally wouldn't expect the British Government to want to commemorate him considering him mailing back his MBE and the whole deal with The Troubles
