amazingly the old ears are still intact. the wifey's ears, not so much. it really was a pleasant volume level and the show was awesome. i think ted is a great guitar player.
on stage i counted 4 full peavey 5150 stacks and 2 peavey 1/2 stacks. the only amp that i could see that was miked was a small amp which i believe was a fender amp. sorry, i'm not a gearhead. feel free to correct me.
as discussed before, bigger is not always better. (i've been telling my wife this for years) ted got some wicked tones from that small amp. of course the pa system was great but the amp itself sounded huge.
for any younger folks out there, you don't need a wall of amps to get huge sound. i've had carvin, marshall and peavey stacks. all very good. but i enjoy my 212 even more for some reason. easy to move. more room on stage. and, noone sets beers on top cause it's on a tilted stand.
of course, now i'm researching small amps for practice here at home since i usually leave my rig at the place we practice. i want a fender amp. we play blues/classic rock and i still love heavy metal.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I've seen The Nuge a few times but, not since about 1987. Always LOUD and Wild, Nonstop. Is he still using the hollow bodied birdland or the PRS? He could make that Gibson Scream and Wail. He is a Legend. Definately one of the more underrated guitarists the world has known. 8)

marvin, he played a stars and stripes les paul for most of the show. he played the PRS for one tune and then broke out the birdland to a very loud ovation. i have to say, the birdland sounded incredible.
while the music was great, i have to say i was most impressed when ted recognized a group of marines that were in attendance. that was the biggest ovation all night. well deserved. very well deserved.

The Fender Frontman 2/12R 100 watt solid state guitar amplifier is a buck banger at $410.00, the Fender Frontman 65R 1/12 65 watt solid state guitar amplifier is even better for a home practice amp at $260.00. There are many others as you have probably looked through this website too, so, maybe a second look and you will find what you are looking for. 8)

iv seen ted 2 times. both times i wasnt impressed at all.
this sucks because i like ted and his albums. ive always heard
ted was great live. i guess ive caught him on his off nights.
ted tone is all his own. you know it when you hear it. he use to use twin reverbs stacked. its a no brainer that he went to 5150's honestly.
i hope to catch him on one of the good nights once at least. i will keep trying for sure. uncle ted is the all american motor city mad man that for sure.

I got turned on to Nuge's playing when he was with the Amboy Dukes, he's certainly one of the Crown Princes of extreme volume, most likely the first.

For a good while Ted used Fender Showmans with his Birdlands.

the only problem i have with ted is that he greatfully took credit for just about everything derek st holmes wrote, played, or song he would sing.

I am a Derek St Holmes fan -- great voice and guitar player. Ted's career took a notable fall off post-Derek.

Except for the fact that he was a draft dodger in the'60s....of course in typical Ted cockiness,he's said that if he had gone to Vietnam,he would naturally have been the biggest bada** there.
